I have been a musician for over 20 years and have been teaching guitar for over 10 years, giving me a vast range of knowledge, teaching methodologies, and learning resources. This class is specific to children as it fosters a love of music and music creation via easy-to-learn and play tunes, notation reading and developing ear skills. Learning music and guitar at a young age is a wonderful way to learn a new skill which boosts confidence, teaches effort and rewards relationships, creates discipline, and helps children take pride in their achievements and performances. We will learn the fundamentals of playing the guitar, focusing on developing good techniques across both the left and right hand enabling faster growth and easier self-directed study. We will learn a selection of short tunes/melodies, chords and some sight reading. Grades are an option for those interested but my main aim is to bring the joy of guitar to the lessons! Mary has been great in our interactions. At the moment, we are meeting twice a week for an hour each session. She started with a class in which we got to know each other and she listen to my goals. Then, she prepared exercises and lessons specially designed to help me reach those goals with practice and also prepared lessons to help me continue growing as a guitar player. Moreover, she goes often out of her way to get songs challenging to my level, but that are doable with enough practice. In all, I am enjoying quite a lot of our classes and I am always looking forward to them.
