My "Intensive Grammar and Pronunciation" lessons are perfect for those who already speak English, more or less, but want to improve. Maybe you don't have problem speaking, but you know you make grammatical mistakes (e.g. tenses, prepositions, articles, etc.) or you want to reduce your accent.

In these lessons, we will do several exercises such as free conversation, read news articles, and use custom made PDFs to help clear up whatever mistakes you make!

About Me

Hello,

My name is Andy and I'm a native English speaking tutor from sunny San Diego, California in the USA.

My focus is adults who already speak English conversationally, more or less, but want to improve in some way. For example, I do a great deal of pronunciation correction and accent reduction. I work on grammar, especially the tenses, quite a lot as well. Whatever you need, we will work on it!

Basically, I help people become more confident by decreasing their grammatical and pronunciation mistakes and increasing their vocabulary and comprehension skills. Additionally, I can help with interview preparation, text correction, and more.

A bit about me: several years ago, I sold everything to travel and have spent the time since traveling and volunteering in the US, South America, and Europe. I recently moved to Cluj-Napoca, Romania and plan to stay long-term!

I have a degree with Web Graphic Design from many years ago, but that's not a profession I care to pursue at this point because I'm enjoying teaching very much!

My passion, and what I do best, is intensive tutoring for intermediate level (or above) students who already have a decent grasp of the language but want to improve in some way. What I do most is pronunciation and phrasal correction, accent reduction, and introduction to new vocabulary.

One of my only requirements is that you are *self-motivated* to speak/converse. I am not going to endlessly supply topics to discuss. Think of it this way: when you meet up with your friends, do you make them give you topics to discuss? No, of course you don't. You just start talking.

The tone of my lessons is more like a conversation than a regular English class. So, please be prepared to keep up your end of the conversation. If you do, we'll never run out of things to talk about, I promise!

I find joy in teaching the nuances of practical English (how it's actually spoken), not theoretical (from textbooks). My preference is to tailor lessons to each person's needs, so I do not have long-term lesson plans and none of my regular, long-term students have had the same experience.

A bit about me: I'm a happy, silly guy from sunny San Diego, California in the US. Several years ago, I gave up the "normal" life and sold everything to travel. Since then I've lived on three continents, learned Spanish, some Polish, and now I'm working on Romanian. So I understand the struggles of learning, and speaking, a foreign language!

Unlike some tutors, I won't promise to have you speaking fluently in "no time". The truth is that no matter what your current level is, it's going to take both of us putting in time and energy to see significant change.

What I will promise, however, is to provide an informative, friendly, and even fun learning environment for you to practice speaking, increase your vocabulary, and, over time, improve your confidence and fluency.

During each lesson I will notate words and/or phrases we discuss, then send my notes to you in a neatly formatted PDF so you can get the most out of our lessons.

Since moving to Cluj four years ago, as someone born and bred in the UK, with a clear English accent, I've been told many times I'm an exotic bird in these parts so should have a go at teaching English, or at least assisting intermediate speakers with their conversation skills.

I've been working as a TV documentary editor for nearly 30 years, lately largely remotely, so have a keen ear for precise language. During 2022 I engaged regularly with a group of Ukrainian refugees who desired to improve their English conversational abilities.

I'd be happy to converse online, meet at your place or mine, or anywhere mutually convenient in the Cluj area.

As a trained actor in my early years, I would also be happy to help with voice projection skills, accent, speech delivery and presentation, through reading, listening and discussing ways of expression.
