I am an energetic, enthusiastic and well qualified Mandarin teacher, who has already had over 10 years of teaching experience, including five universities in four different countries(England, Germany, Taiwan and China), two international schools, two UK independent schools and four different language centres.

I am a calm, patient and energetic teacher. I love sharing my culture and native language with students, as I love travelling and learning new languages and cultures myself.

Everybody's development must be attended to individually. As a teacher, I am able to ascertain and cater for the educational needs of every one of my students. This permanent Monday -Friday position gave me my first experience in preparing students for GCSE, iGCSE and A-level examinations. Due to how international my school is, I teach native Chinese speakers and non-native speakers. This breadth of student-base has expanded my skills considerably. From teaching students their first lesson to analysing millennia-old Chinese literature with native-speakers, I have enjoyed this challenge. I have developed the Chinese syllabus while here, which now has curriculum classes in years 7, 8 & 9. Last year saw my first two non-native speaking students take their GCSEs; both my British and my Korean student got As, after I had taught them from beginner level, two years previously. I am also the GCSE examiner for the oral summer examinations.

I have been giving chinese lessons for more than 10 years. Before that, I was a radio broadcaster and a journalist in China, hence I have a perfect pronunciation of the official mandarin, without any accent. It provides my students the best conditions to learn chinese, as the tone you give to words when you speak chinese as a foreigner is of great importance if you want to be understood by natives.

The most important thing when learning a language is to build up your own language corpus and to actually use the language in conversation and in everyday life.
Since I taught myself German, I know the subtle differences between Chinese and German very well – from pronunciation to grammar to the cultural nuances behind them.

In my lessons, I don't use traditional textbooks. I'm much more interested in how you want to learn this language.
In the first lesson, we'll get to know each other through conversation: What do you like to talk about? What would you like to improve? After that, I'll create personalized lessons for you. Each lesson begins with an open conversation in Chinese. Depending on your needs, I'll integrate relevant audio and video materials into the lessons. After each lesson, you'll receive a list of new vocabulary and key points to keep you informed, so you can continuously expand your vocabulary. This is even more helpful if you use Anki :)
