Learn jazz and tonal harmony with Mathieu
From 49.5 € /h
I'm going to help you build an effective practice routine. That's the most important thing! We'll talk about listening, transcription, repertoire, vocabulary, phrasing, articulation, harmony, and technique. I keep the lesson notes and comments in an online document so you can review them anytime. I currently have 3 spots available. Priority is given to regular students (weekly or bi-weekly), but I'm open to one-off requests if my schedule allows.
The courses are given at my home in Montreal or online.

About Me
I am a Montréal-based professional jazz guitar player. I have studied privately with Peter Bernstein, Pasquale Grasso, Greg Ruggiero, Ari Roland, Michael Weiss, Grant Stewart, Chris Byars and Alex Goodman. I graduated from McGill University in 2019. I am active on the local scene and have toured in Canada. You may have heard my music on CBC. Short bio: Mathieu Soucy (he/him), “a natural-born swinger” (Jack Bowers, All About Jazz), “has been making quite a splash on the scene these days as a player, educator and composer with a nicely balanced style that has one foot planted firmly in the tradition and one foot planted firmly in the now” (Lyle Robinson, Jazz Guitar Life). His first full-length album RECOLLECTING (Inner-Bop Records, self-released) features brilliant voices of the new generation of Canadian jazz and was released on September 30th. 3x JUNO-winner Caity Gyorgy makes a guest appearance on two tracks as a vocalist and lyricist.
