I’m Tom, a native English speaker from the south of England with a double master's degree in Linguistics, extensive phonetic training, and 13 years of teaching experience.

I offer one-to-one English accent coaching personalised for your needs and goals. I will help you correctly produce the sounds of English so that you can immediately start speaking with more clarity, confidence, and control – and without shame or embarrassment.

WILL I SOUND 100% NATIVE?
❗Research shows that for most adult speakers, it's just not possible after our teenage years to develop a fully native accent. So, honest accent coaching is not about training you to sound native. Instead, a good coach will train you to be understood by as many people as possible and communicate exactly what you intend. That means fixing problematic sounds and expanding your range of vocal styles by borrowing from voice acting techniques, from sounding authoritative and executive to warm and supportive.

If you do want to sound native, I can still help you – whichever accent you prefer – British, American, Australian or anything else. Chances are, you won't sound fully native, but you can still make adjustments, and people will be curious or even unsure about where you come from. I call it customising your voice so that you like the way you sound.

• I use modern evidence-based methods including speech visualisation software, shadowing and HVPT
• I create my own original training materials tailored to YOUR individual language background, goals, requirements and preferences – I offer a customised course specifically for you, not a one-size-fits-all package
• You’ll start with controlled practice to master new sounds, then move into spontaneous speech so that these skills become part of your everyday speaking habits.

About Me

I teach languages without a traditional textbook. Instead, I use interesting, naturalistic materials. I enjoy creating new materials for my students based on their needs and interests.

My classroom is a safe space where you don't ever need to feel embarrassed. My feedback is honest but never shaming. It is important to me that my students feel good about our classes and can ask for what they need any time.

TEACHING STYLE:

My classes are focused completely on test skills. You will learn how to answer questions much faster with me.

👂 LISTENING: The IELTS listening test is full of DISTRACTIONS. It is designed to make you not sure about the answer. Usually, there is not just one simple answer, but there are two or three possible answers, and only one is completely correct. I will teach you to pay attention to the correct keywords and reject the distractions. SPELLING is also very important for this test. English spelling is complicated, but there are RULES and patterns that I will teach you.

📚 READING: I will teach you how to increase your reading SPEED, quickly find key information and reject distractions. You will learn how to answer all question types including multiple choice, matching information, true/false/not given, filling in blanks, and labelling diagrams.

🖊️ WRITING: You will learn about all the Task 1 question types including graphs, charts, maps and diagrams, plus all the Task 2 essay types. My COMPLETE WRITING GUIDE will give you all of the sentence patterns and structures you need to answer any question type. Even if you don't normally write well, you will be PREPARED for the test. I will also teach you to write QUICKLY, as it is essential to finish both tasks and reach the minimum number of words within one hour.

👄 SPEAKING: I will help you answer FLUENTLY and CLEARLY without hesitation in Part 1, make short speeches in Part 2, and give long and confident answers to all types of difficult questions in Part 3. I will help you with improve your fluency, pronunciation and confidence.

My goal is to teach younger children/students the correct way of the English language. I have had precious experience with tutoring while I lived in Germany. During my time in tutoring,I learnt that children tend to learn faster and easier when enjoying a lesson. I therefore try to keep my lessons fun and exciting but of course, effective. I am a professional English teacher with over 8 years experience in various teaching roles. I have experience of teaching all ages from 3 up to 65+ in group classes or 1-on-1. Specific purpose teaching such as public speaking or business English also taught.
