As a Spanish teacher for foreigners, my primary goal is to create a dynamic and accessible learning environment where each student can progress at their own pace and develop the linguistic skills needed to communicate effectively and confidently in Spanish. Course Approach: Practical communication: From day one, I focus on providing students with the tools necessary to navigate everyday situations. This includes learning greetings, introductions, asking for directions, shopping, talking about likes and daily routines. Applied grammar: Grammar teaching is contextual, meaning I don't just explain rules but teach students how to use them correctly in real-life situations. We start with basic structures at lower levels and progress to more complex tenses such as the subjunctive and verb periphrasis at higher levels. Vocabulary expansion: I offer a thematic and functional approach to vocabulary, covering areas like family, work, travel, health, and leisure, ensuring that students can communicate fluently in a wide variety of contexts. Development of the four language skills: Classes focus on listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing in an integrated way. This is achieved through activities such as debates, text writing, audio and video comprehension, and role-playing. Cultural interaction: A cultural approach is encouraged in the classes, where students not only learn the language but also customs, idiomatic expressions, and regional variations of Spanish. This helps them understand cultural differences and communicate more authentically. Constant practice and feedback: I provide ongoing feedback, correcting mistakes and guiding students toward more precise communication. Additionally, I incorporate practical tasks where students are faced with real-life situations (such as making presentations or writing formal emails) to apply what they've learned effectively. My commitment is to support each student in their learning process, creating a safe and stimulating environment where they feel comfortable and motivated to advance in their mastery of Spanish.

Would you love to write, but don't know where to begin? Perhaps you're already writing or studying English/creative writing, and need a hand? Would you benefit from 1-1, tailored support? I'm a writer and poet, and my experience of tutoring hundreds of people over the past couple of decades has taught me that anyone can write with the right tools, support and encouragement! We all have experiences we can draw on to express ourselves creatively through the written word. Children, young people, and those experiencing challenges often find writing particularly beneficial and enjoyable. I am here to help inspire new and emerging writers by guiding you through the basics of writing, facilitating a deepened enjoyment and understanding of the power of words, and, importantly, supporting you to have confidence in your unique voice. These interactive, informal, and supportive online classes are aimed at students of any age (above 7 years) who wish to write poetry, short stories, or creative prose (such as life writing). This includes beginners who are keen to learn basic writing skills, and those with some experience wishing to develop their practice and learn more, including students of English and creative writing at school, college or outside of formal education. Although we will touch on key grammatical terms, the focus will be on your creative expression through the written word. In these classes, which will be tailored according to age, experience, needs, and areas of interest, students will learn the basics of writing short stories, including flash fiction; poetry, including free verse and traditional forms such as Haiku and sonnets; and creative prose, including life writing or short creative essays. You can attend as many classes as you like, and together, we will build your skills and understanding of creative writing, including identifying the stories you want to tell. The classes will be a mix of presentation, 'warm-up' writing activities, discussion, reading and analysing key texts, main writing activities, and redrafting, editing and proof-reading your work. For those wishing to get published, there will be additional optional support available, such as detailed editing and mentoring advice, as well as hints and tips on developing as a writer. Bring what you need to me, and we will shape the classes together! I hold a recent DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, and parents or guardians of students under 18 years of age are welcome to meet the tutor first, and/or sit in on the classes. I am an admissions consultant specialising in guiding students to apply to universities or graduate schools in the US and the UK. Most of my clients are third or fourth-year undergraduates or professionals with a few years of work experience applying to graduate schools. My teaching philosophy is to be a mentor, friend, and sometimes emotional support counsellor for my clients. The admissions process can be daunting, especially for students with little or no experience writing personal statements and academic essays. I guide my students on a journey of self-discovery as they explore what they want to study and why. When I am working with a student on crafting their personal statement, I will first ask my student to brainstorm ideas. We will discuss what to keep and what to delete when we are structuring the essay. I will then guide them on using the STAR method to give examples and details to demonstrate their skill or experience. The final stage is polishing the essay so it reads well and still retains the student's voice. I also coach secondary school and undergraduate students how to write academic essays. They need to first become familiar with the materials by reading extensively and writing summaries and critiques. I will then guide them on how to come up with an argument and how to structure the essay. Finally, we will add supporting details and examples to demonstrate the main points.
