I'm an Italian professional violinist graduated in the Hochschule der Künste in Zürich.

I offer lessons for anyone who want to learn or improve their skills in playing the violin or viola. It is open to individuals of all age categories, from kids to adults.

The lessons focus on allowing students to have fun while making music and expressing themselves through their instrument. I adapts the pace, materials, and choice of songs to each student's requests and needs.
The classes can also serve as personal work support, where students can bring in their own scores from their main class or chamber orchestra.

I have over 8 years of experience, I am able to teach beginner to advanced level students, and can communicate in Italian, English and German.

About Me

Born in Turin, Italy in 1991, Valerie Mbigna started playing the violin at the age of 4 years old at the Suzuki School with Lee Robert and Antonio Mosca.

She graduated from the Conservatorio "G. Verdi" of Turin under the guidance of Silvio Bresso.

In 2012 she moved to Zurich to study at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, where she graduated with a Master in Music Performance under the guidance of Marianne Häberli and a Master in Music Pedagogy under the guidance of Ulrich Gröner.

In 2016 she was became a Suzuki Certified Teacher.

She has been a violin and music teacher as well as a String Ensemble conductor, teaching babies, children and adults both in individual and group settings.

About the lesson

I have enjoyed violin lessons from world-renowned professors such as Grigory Zhislin, Pavel Vernikov and Ilya Gringolts for the last 20 years. It is important to me to share my experiences with you. My lessons are completely adapted to your needs and your level. After the first assessment, we will define personal goals and a plan will be drawn up together. I focus on the basics of playing the violin (posture/bowing technique), but of course the joy of making music is in the foreground. Whether you are preparing for a competition, for an entrance exam, or you have had long plans to delve into the world of the violin - everyone is welcome! As a concert violinist, I find it important to be on stage and play for an audience. I organize a master class (we play for each other) and a concert up to twice a year where my students can demonstrate their knowledge to an audience. I teach in German, English and Russian.

Would you like to learn viola, violin or piano? I am happy to support you with creativity and patience in the learning process. The most important thing for me is that the focus is on enjoying making music and developing at your own pace.
In the summer of 2022 I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Classical Music at the Basel Music Academy. After an internship at a special education school in Winterthur, I have been studying speech therapy in Zurich since 2023 and play the viola in orchestral projects, various chamber music formations and the violin in a band.

Hello, my name is Izabel and I play the viola professionally and work in Zurich Opernhaus as well as other orchestras.
I also have more than 10 years of experience teaching the violin, the viola and music theory.
I can speak fluent English, Bulgarian and French. I can also understand German, but cannot fluently communicate.
I would be happy to work with you or your child at your home, or in my studio, as well as give an online course. My weeks are often quite flexible and I am happy to accommodate to your schedule whenever it is possible.

It is an important step in one's development to seek the right guidance and to have a teacher who helps them develop and grow. I was lucky to have been taught by incredible teachers, but I also needed to create a specialised way of practicing for myself, which I soon realised could help many others get through the difficulties of learning the stringed instrument.

As well as instrumental teaching and ensemble coaching of at all levels over the last 12 years, I’ve led numerous professional workshops, including ‘Music First’ and ‘Music Masters’ workshops in London and was an assistant on the Primary Arpeggione viola course and at the Springgrove music competition. As a member of the European String Teachers’ Association, I participated in their conferences across Europe.

I have prepared students for music exams at all levels, working with them on music theory, aural and sight reading skills, and regularly accompany students on the piano.

I perform internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, recently including at the Victoria Hall in Geneva, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Philharmonie in Berlin. I’m a Tillett Trust and Villa Musica artist, winner of the Małopolska competition, Barbirolli Prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition and Len Lickorish Memorial Prize at the Royal Overseas League International Strings Competition.

I hold a masters degree with first class honours from the class of Tabea Zimmermann at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, and Bachelors with the same distinction from the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Toby is an outstanding instructor and works with children very naturally. My 11 year old son has been taking lessons with Toby for over two months and is eager for each lesson. Toby is extremely talented, but beyond that, he engages my son deeply with the music itself, fundamental techniques, music theory, and even the interpretation of the music. Toby is kind, encouraging, and works with students at a level that is appropriate. He has allowed my son to chose music that if fun and interesting to practice, even though the pieces are challenging. In fact, I often sit in to listen to the lessons, as they are so good. My name is Giacomo and I hold two Master of Arts in Music Performance, one in Rome and one from the "Zurcher Hochschule der Kunste" in Zurich.
During my class lessons you'll learn the wonderful art of playing the violin, an incredible instrument! I have many years of experience with teaching, I do private lessons and I have worked as a teacher for "Tiziano Rossetti International Music Academy in Lugano" for several years. As a teacher my goal is to bring out the best version of my students, using their individual strenghts, which are different for each of them. I’m a violinist trained at the Conservatorio “Luca Marenzio” in Brescia, where I completed a traditional 10-year diploma in violin performance in 2016. I gained extensive experience as a concert musician, playing as first violin in distinguished orchestras and baroque ensembles.

Alongside the violin, I also teach piano. I studied piano as a complementary instrument during my conservatory studies and have continued to cultivate it for many years, focusing mainly on Russian late-Romantic repertoire.

In my teaching, I place strong emphasis on solid fundamentals and the development of musical curiosity from the very first lessons. I am happy to teach both children and adults of any level, adapting each lesson to the student’s pace, personality, and goals.
