Spiritual music - the art of making music from the heart

Learn to make music straight from the heart! Study music as a spiritual practice.

It is one of the most valued factors in music all over the world, though also one of the least understood. (At least in the western world, if not anywhere.) Often deemed a kind of sub-talent "one just has or one doesn't", I am very certain it is something any musician can learn. I know because I found out how that works.

The technique is easy to understand, but hard to master. Mastering in fact takes a lifetime. As it is in essence the art of improving oneself through the medium of music.

A lifelong student myself, I have always found it hard to study music in any other way. Most things therefore I had to find out by myself while carving my own path, never really staying with any music teacher for long.

No matter how skilled you currently are at making music, you can learn this if you feel the motivation to do so. In fact it can be an advantage not to much already.

One main medium we use for training is improvisation. Which might be scary at first, but can become something very exciting very soon if you open yourself to it. Anyone can learn this!

The methods used can also be applied to non-improvised music. They turn studying music into a spiritual practice and performing music into the sharing of spiritual energy with other people.

Are you interested in making music from the heart? Are you open to accept my teachings as a hypothesis, to find out for yourself if it works for you?

Depending on what you prefer we can also integrate a variation of other spiritual techniques into our lessons.

Get in touch! Lessons can also be online or in person, we will talk about this during intake.

Other times and dates than stated here might also be available, please contact me for further enquiries. Usually very flexible when it comes to time and location.

Student's goal-centered trumpet and general music lessons in Amsterdam
Have you always wanted to play an instrument that is extremely diverse and used in many different music styles? Have a dream to learn to play the trumpet but never knew where to go and where to start? Have you been playing in the past and now you want to pick it up again, or continue learning with a teacher? Your situation might be described above or be something different, it doesn't matter. I'm offering high-quality, student-centered trumpet lessons with years of teaching experience. My goal is to help you to reach your goals with whatever you want to learn with the instrument, and also equip you with good instrument technique and general music theory knowledge. I have studied both classical and jazz music and played also pop, funk and other styles of music. I have recently graduated from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In addition to trumpet playing, I'm also a singer and composer. I would be more than happy to teach you what I know from these fields of activities. I hope to see you at my lessons! Kirsi

Play only what you like! - Piano lessons for all levels and all styles
Music is Play! and everyone is it's own game. Read, understand and make only the music you like. I think if it isn't fun, it can't be music:) I studied a classical piano bachelor, and later a jazz master and a live electronics master. In the meantime, I have been teaching music. It's longer than 9 years now! Most of my students learn piano. With the starter ones, I use my own system to equally help them grow all the needed skills: body consciousness (to avoid lesions or bad habits), music theory (including writing and reading) and improvisation. Usually most songs are made of melody, chords and rhythm. From there, I can help you understand how a song works, how is it written, how does it translate to the piano... and voilá! You'll know the song by heart, and will be able to play it a bit different every time, because you won't be following a set of pre-imposed instructions. You will understand how a small system (a song) works. This way of learning can be applied to any song, from any century or style. Understanding is key! Play Chopin, write rock songs, play Monk, Bill Evans, the Beatles, make a lo-fi beat, play Beethoven, play the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Star Wars, play video game music, play salsa! bachata and make people dance, laugh or cry. Music is very powerful! PD: I have also experience imparting electronic music lessons in Ableton Live and Max MSP, which is now a very important part of my professional practice. In case you are interested, it is also possible to mix the two worlds and create a any kind of path between piano, synths, beats and home studio techniques. Ask me anything, I'll tell you how I could help!

Ableton & MaxMSP Lessons - in a͓̽m͓̽s͓̽t͓̽e͓̽r͓̽d͓̽a͓̽m͓̽
Ableton Live is a software music sequencer and digital audio workstation. In contrast to many other software sequencers, Live is designed to be an instrument for live performances as well as a tool for composing, recording, arranging, mixing, and mastering. Max, also known as Max/MSP/Jitter, is a visual programming language for music and multimedia. Over its more than thirty-year history, it has been used by composers, performers, software designers, researchers, and artists to create recordings, performances, and installations. Depending on your interest I will show you how to use and customise each program to your needs, but also show you how to combine the two in order to get the best of the 2 worlds. Ableton and MaxMSP are a killer combo for anyone that wants to: - expand their musical instrument with electronic extensions - create custom made controllers for their live performances - create complex automations for live or studio use - produce music, compose, arrange - create automated VJ sets to accompany their live performance - create a live looping performance - control backing tracks for live performances - work on generative music - program art installations and much more I will give you sets & patches with examples to accompany the lessons, but also help you build your own creations in MaxMSP or Ableton.

Flute lessons from beginners to advanced, all ages are welcome!
I am a professionally trained teacher and flutist for almost two decades. My lessons are given in English, Spanish and (soon) Dutch. My teaching method is variable depending on the students' needs, but the goal is shared: to make a great musician and qualified flutist out of the pupil. I work on both technical and musical aspects from a (very) consciously prepared healthy and enjoyable perspective. Particular emphasis on having fun with the little ones! I pay special attention to creating a personalized education and experience for every one of my students. I also give some additional tools applicable to the flute playing which includes: Introduction to Yoga, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique and Body & Mind. All the basic theory is taught too. From among the required tools for my lessons are: a flute, score and books purchases when necessar. On occasion, I use digital tools like phone/tablet apps. I can teach in various places near or in the center of Amsterdam, or, depending on the need, I can move to pretty much wherever in The Netherlands. About the homework, I send it to the students on a weekly basis and encourage them to participate on competitions and summer music courses. As always, this is conditional on the pupil's stage. Students of all ages and levels are welcome to contact me for more information and/or any questions that may arise.

Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative, Power Yoga - certified teacher.
I teach Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative and Power Yoga. Lessons are available at all levels in English or Dutch. Yoga has done a lot for me, both physically and mentally. It is about much more than just exercise and would like to share this with others. I did my 200 hour yoga teacher training in Vinyasa and Ashtanga Yoga in Greece. In addition, I followed a 100-hour yoga teacher training in Yin Yoga in Utrecht. I would like to give my students a better understanding of why you are practicing a certain pose, what the benefits are for your body and mind, and the best way to get into the pose.

Classic hatha yoga private lesson (Sivananda style) | for inner peace and physical well-being
I am trained in classical hatha yoga, specifically Sivananda yoga. It is a varied class consisting of breathing exercises (pranayama), active yoga postures (asanas) interspersed with relaxation (savasana). The yoga style was developed by Swami Sivananda. He had a background as a doctor, with this knowledge he has developed a series of exercises that are optimal for your entire health. The asana poses are aimed at promoting the functioning of your organs and the alternation of exertion and relaxation promotes the balance of your autonomic nervous system. By regularly practicing Sivananda yoga you will feel fitter and you will notice that you can find more relaxation in your life. My lesson will look like this: I start the class with some breathing exercises. Then follow the warming up exercises (including the sun salutation) to warm up the body for the asanas. This is followed by a series of asanas interspersed with relaxing poses. This series will be roughly the same for each lesson, with a slight variation in exercises. The more often you do the same exercises, the more you can feel the benefits of the exercise and the deeper you can get into the poses. The exercises also become more meditative the more often you do them and you can find more peace in the postures. The lesson ends with a final relaxation. In my private lesson I have special attention for you and I can adapt my lesson to your needs. If you have injuries or other things that limit you in practicing yoga, I will gladly adapt the exercises to you so that you can get the most out of your private lesson. In my lesson, the emphasis is also on finding peace and acceptance in yourself, so that you can really come to yourself during the lesson. If you have any questions about the class, send me a message!

Alexander Technique as a tool for a Healthier Life
Alexander Technique addresses posture, balance, movement, and breathing issues in a holistic manner. The teacher's central aim is to gently bring the students' attention to the way she uses her own body in activity and how it affects directly its overall functioning. The idea is to slowly cultivate a self-regulating awareness of the body which in time will check for a more balanced and integrated life.
