As your piano tutor, I want to teach you how I learnt piano, and show you how to be creative with music, at the very least for enjoyment, but also for any professional aspirations into composition.

I start by familiarising my students with the fundamentals of music at the piano, how the piano is structured, arpeggios, baselines, chord sequences, melody sequences, etc. We take these fundamentals and build sophistication of musicality with a dynamic curriculum.

Lessons are structured by familiarising with musical concepts by a demonstration, playing together, and playing solo in a way that aims to be accessible and sensitive to the student’s sensibilities.

I grew up in North Wales and I first discovered a love of music in secondary school during a composition lesson on putting a basic melody to a chord sequence. Inspired, I found my Father’s stowed away 1980s Casio keyboard, where I began to experiment and learn tunes by ear. As my skills developed, I began to compose my own music, which was the beginning of a professional career in composition for films.

As your piano tutor, I want to teach you how I learnt piano, and show you how to be creative with music, at the very least for enjoyment, but also for any professional aspirations into composition.

I'm Mary from Berlin. I'm a teacher and piano composer with 15 years of experience and also teach at a music school. I also have a bachelor's degree in teaching English. If you're interested in teaching your children how to play the piano in addition to theoretical knowledge, I'd be happy to help you. I have different kind of lessons:

1. Face-to-face lessons of modern singing

Modern singing: technique, improvisation and repertoire
The face-to-face classes take place at a studio in Prenzlauer Berg and are mainly aimed at adults and teenagers who want to learn music. They have a duration of 50 minutes.

In singing classes, breathing and vocal technique are worked through warm-up exercises, always with the aim of working the voice in a healthy and correct way. My classes are mainly focused on the repertoire of the student’s preferred style, which can be pop, soul, jazz, blues, bossa nova, tango and bolero, among others. Each style is worked differently and with the appropriate resources to lead to a good interpretation.

Both for warm-up and repertoire I usually accompany the student on the piano. Depending on the style sometimes I may work with karaokes. I also teach a good use of the microphone, to fight stage panic and to enjoy a performance on stage. The singing lessons are aimed at people of any level, from beginners to advanced, even to someone who is preparing an exam for an upper grade of modern music.

My main objective is above all that the student feels motivated, and not under pressure. For me it is very important that the student enjoys music and the music lessons.

2. Initiation to piano: modern harmony and auditory education

The piano lessons are aimed primarily at beginners. My intention is mainly to prepare my piano students so that they can later develop a more advanced style with a teacher whose main instrument is the piano. For this, I start with basic exercises for a good hand technique and with simple songs so that the student learns to read music. For those who already have a basic level, I start directly with scales and chords, mostly focusing on teaching songs in modern harmony. The main objective is the motivation of the student, avoiding pressure. For me it is very important that the student enjoys music and the music lessons.

3. Modern singing on-line lessons

Modern singing on-line classes: technique, improvisation and repertoire
Like face-to-face classes, online lessons last 50 minutes. They are also aimed at adults and teenagers who want to learn music and find virtual classes more comfortable, for whatever reason.

The lessons are given through a virtual meeting app, either Jitsi or Zoom. They are similar to those in the classroom, with the difference that a little more time is devoted to the repertoire than to the technique.

I consider of great importance that the student enjoys the lessons also in this case and does not lose motivation.

Piano is an incredible instrument to learn - it provides you with a broad understanding of music, develops listening skills, and great dexterity, increases concentration, and much more.
I specialize in jazz piano but teach all musical styles according to the student's needs and wishes. Throughout the lesson we will learn music and songs, technique, harmony, ear training, theory, and rhythm - all subjects of music can be addressed through the piano!

ENGLISH-SPEAKING PIANO TUTOR

I teach adults of all levels!

I often mentor people who are just starting out, helping them develop their interest in the instrument and play the music they love.

A lot of students come in with anxiety about how good or fast they're going to be able to learn. I work to build a respectful, supportive environment where you feel comfortable developing and learning at your own pace.

For intermediate and advanced students, I teach with a particular focus on fundamental technique through études, and developing musicality.

Oftentimes, as hobbyists, we have holes from our early studies that prevent us from developing later in life. My aim is to help correct that. You should leave with renewed confidence to tackle pieces that have intimidated or eluded you in the past.

The piano is a fantastically rewarding, therapeutic and challenging instrument, and a really enjoyable hobby. It can also be a skill for life and a career, or simply help to improve communication, socials skills, memory, independent learning and well being. It is never too late to start, and lessons can be suitable for very young children, contrary to popular belief.

I like to focus on making my lessons fun, practical and interactive for every student. I use a variety of activities and tailor the lessons around things that my students are interested in. The more fun I am having the more fun the student has! I know that one of the biggest reasons for giving up piano lessons is that the students do not like the music that they are playing. I make every effort to find out what students enjoy, and seek out or arrange music especially for them.

This is perfect for teenagers or adults who want to learn but aren't interested in learning classical pieces. I only offer 1 / 1,5 / 2-hour sessions to give us plenty of time to work on the techniques, and, ideally, play a whole song during a single session.

If I should describe my piano lessons I would say that they are very playful! The talking and theory is secondary, most important is to play and then see how to listen and adapt from there. My students have fun, they enjoy our lessons, otherwise they don't practise and make progress :)
It is important that our lesson is making you more independant and secure to play and understand music on your own! I have teaching experiences since fourteen years, I studied music education, piano, harpsichord which I will use for your understanding. This year I will only focus on teaching people over 12 years old. If you live 15minutes by bike from me, there is the possibility to come to your home. Hello there!

My name is Sara and I'm a classical pianist and piano teacher. I have been a pianist for about 15 years and started teaching it a while ago as well. I offer lessons in 3 different languages ( English, Arabic and German) for both beginner and intermediate levels.

I believe music should be enjoyed and comfortably played, allowing people to both connect with it and understand while challenging them to express themselves in new and different ways. I started teaching piano by chance – to refugees. That's when I realized how powerful music can be in supporting people. Over the years, teaching has become something I truly cherish. I continue to work as an artist, and music and art remain my greatest passions. But the moments I share with my students have become just as meaningful. I've been able to build connections with people in ways I never expected, and I see this work as a way to contribute to a better world.
Most of my students are adults. Some played as children and are starting again, others are complete beginners; some are advanced and want to delve deeper. In lessons, we work not only on technique but also on musical understanding: reading what's "in" the score, developing interpretation, and experiencing music as a living language—not just as dots on a piece of paper.
