Education
Born in Lebanon in 1991, Wajdi graduated from the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music (LNHCM) with a diploma in Piano in 2014 (with Sevag Derghougassian and Janna Popkova), then in Music Composition (with Elia Koussa and Joelle Khoury) and electronic music (Jamal Boul-Hosn) in 2016, and he is currently pursuing his masters in the musicology of tradition at Antonine University.Experience / Qualifications
Wajdi is a composer of classical contemporary music, musicologist, educator, and conductor who believes in music as a way to build our cultural future while keeping us connected to our cultural history. As a composer, Wajdi’s music exhibits an echo of the Arabic Mashriq musical history, in a modern language that imitates the contemporary unbalanced world, reflecting the contradictions, beauty, and brutality within it. It searches as well for inspiration in the elements of Arabic music such as Maqamat, rhythms, and Taqassim, as well as in classical Arabic language and rhythms of poetry, which results in a unique Contemporary Oriental music language.
This language resulted in receiving numerous honoraria for some of his compositions such as the FIRST PRIZE in the 2022 Emerging Composer Competition by Rising Tide Press and the International Women Brass Conference 2022 for his piece “Folk Story” for Brass quintet, Special MENTION from The Gaetano Giani Luporini prize 2022 for his chamber opera “The Dream”, an HONORABLE MENTION for his piece “Al Mouraba’ Dance” for solo viola after he participated in the Gardner Music Composition Competition 2022, by the American Viola Society, HONORABLE MENTION and the SPECIAL PRIZE BY CLUSTER at the LIMF 2020 Composition Competition for his piece “Cry from the frozen pole”, and a CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION for his composition “The Youngest” from “Cergy Pontoise orchestra-studio” after he participated in the “12th International Meeting of Young Composers” in Cergy Pontoise. In addition to selecting his music for numerous CALLS FOR SCORE such as “Deterritorializing the Realm of New Music”, by Anoush Moazzeni and Canadian music center, for his piece “TAFA’IL” for prepared piano and tape, the call for score by American flutist Dustin White’sproject (album “Ri Ra”) for his piece “THE AWISS DANCE” for solo bass flute, David Bohn’s call for score music 15 minutes of fame for his piece “Dabket El 2020“, and for his piece “A dinner with the death” for toy piano (2022), and Cypress concert band call for score for his piece “the Unsquar suite”. In in addition to being chosen for two RESIDENCY PROGRAMS by the CCF and Unesco as part of the NAFAS-ACCR program, which resulted in a one-month residency in the Cite Musicale De Metz (March 2022), and one month in the Cite Musicale De L’abbaye Aux Dames De Sainte (April 2022), both in France.
As an Arranger/Orchestrator, Wajdi plays a leading role in introducing Arabic music to non-Arabic musicians, and audiences, and his arrangements link the two cultures of western and oriental music, as in his two books of music, “ARABIC FOLK TUNES“, and “LONGA AND SAMA’I” with piano accompaniment, that are designed to introduce pianists and classical musicians to Arabic music, in addition to several orchestral arrangements of Arabic folk tunes, popular and classical songs, and traditional and classical Arabic instrumental music, which was performed in Arabic and non-Arabic countries, resulting in many tributes to the greatest musicians of the Arabs’ world, as Zaki Nassif, Wadih El Safi, Wadih Sabra, Om Kolthoum, Abed El Wahab and many others.
As an artistic director and conductor, Wajdi pushed his ensembles and orchestras to follow his high musical standards by giving equal importance to musicality, technique, discipline, and repertoire. After Founding the Beirut Contemporary Ensemble, Choueifat Band and Choir (CBCLEB), and Orchestra Al Mokhaym, Wajdi’s experience in working with ensembles covered all types of musicians from Professionals to beginners, with a wide repertoire from classical to contemporary music, passing by Arabic Folks, World music and film music.
Wajdi believes in music as a powerful tool to engage with society, and following his beliefs, he launched several initiatives focusing on providing solutions for music education and creating more opportunities for young musicians, as a way to change society through music. Initiatives such as FREE MUSIC EDUCATION FOR ALL, and THE LEBANESE LIVING COMPOSER’S CHANEL. This resulted in gaining the trust and support of many patrons who believed in his projects and goals and awarded him several grants such as the FREEMUSE mini-grant, CULTURAL RESSOURCES exceptional grant, and support of the GOETHE institute, the CPML, the CCF, and others.
Wajdi’s belief in the effectiveness of music in spreading human values and its role in the mental and physical growth of children and adolescents guided him to the music education field. His experience as a piano, music formation, and harmony teacher for more than 8 years in the LEBANESE HIGHER CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC, and as a music teacher in several schools such as HARIRI and TAHADDI schools in Lebanon, guided him to discover the many music pedagogies as Kodaly, Orf, Suzuki and other. Wajdi applied these methods in his classes of music theory, choir, and musical formation, which allowed him to develop his teaching philosophy and techniques in both individual and group classes. He also published several papers such as “A Guide to the Arabic Music”, “Scale and Arpeggios” for piano in two volumes, “Warm-up Chorales” for orchestra, “Traditional Arabic Rhythms”, and many articles in local magazines such as An-Nidaa, and on his blog.
His passion for music, his dedication, and his fast learning capability pushed him to study and work in different technological fields such as music technology, music production, video editing, Photoshop, recording, mixing, mastering, music notation, and more, which polished his experience as a self-music producer and publisher.
On the other hand, Wajdi considers collaborations an open continuing opportunity to share his experiences, and to benefit from others’ experiences, which resulted in many projects with international groups, organizations, and artists, such as choreographer and performer “Preeti Vasudevan”, the Taipei Civic Symphony Orchestra and Tunisia 88 Honors Choir, Oudist Abbass Kassamany (Lebanon), pianist Kaiyin Huang (Taiwan), the White Snake Project (New York), Music For Identity (Germany), The San Jose Lullaby Project (San Jose), Forum für Kunst- und Kulturgeschichte Transnational (Germany), Italian- Lebanese pianist Ramzi Hakim, Seba Ali (Egypt), Amr Selim (Egypt)... Wajdi’s collaboration also includes long-term participation in the World Music Conference (international, based in the UK) as a music ambassador for his country Lebanon.
Wajdi was Chosen as the Global Youth Ambassador representing Lebanon at the World Music Conference (2021 and 2022), and he is also an active member of the ACAN network, the MILLENNIUM COMPOSERS INITIATIVE, Boston Music Imitative, and the SMCPL.

Private course of Piano/Composition/Computer Music with AppMuse
< Learning Piano is not merely about playing the piano >
Before starting to learn the piano, it’s essential to recognize that :
'' What we are actually learning is "Music", but not only "Piano". ''
The goal of learning any instrument is to acquire the language of music, enabling us to express ourselves and enjoy music with others. Playing the piano is for creating beautiful sounds, not really for developing finger speed or strength. That’s the function of gym.
< Music is like cooking >
When we cook, to make roast beef tender, of course, it’s nice to have a tender heart, but without knowing how to control the temperature, the roast beef won’t become tender merely by our tender heart.
By only adding salt, the dish won’t be sweet. Similarly, simply playing or writing a C major triad chord won’t convey a sorrowful feeling.
To create the feeling we want, no matter how much sentiment we have in our hearts, to convey it via music, it needs to be translated into the language which the piano can understand, which means, how we press and lift the keys and pedals. Similarly, when we compose, it needs to be transferred into chords, and notes we write.
< Difference between an audience and a musician >
There is a common belief that a musician can make music with sentiment or feeling. While it’s partially true, the most essential thing is knowing ‘’How’’ to create the sound that conveys the feeling we want, rather than merely knowing ‘’What’' feeling we want to convey.
The understanding of the mechanism behind music is essential, as cooking, and that is the difference between an audience and a musician. As an audience, one can simply feel the music. Like a chief who knows how to create a specific flavor to convey, a musician knows how to create the sound which can convey the feeling we want. While knowing which feeling we want is great, it’s merely the first step. Your emotions are not too different from Chopin, Beethoven, Adele or Taylor Swift, otherwise, they can’t resonate with you. But they know how to create the sound that conveys the feeling they want to their audience.
< Course Content >
I consider my course to be a form of "Music Consultation" because it contains a wide range of subjects that are essential to a professional musician. While we focus on piano playing, there are also music theory, music history, instrument construction, ergonomics for performers, analysis of composer styles, composition, arrangement, recording, MIDI, computer music, the physics of sound, and more.
In avoid of confusion, let’s still call my course as "Piano Course”.
< Duration >
For each course, I will reserve at least 70 minutes in my schedule for you, including 60 minutes of class time and an additional 10 minutes for discussion and any questions you may have. This will ensure that your courses are not rushed by the next student. This ensures that there is enough time for you to solve your piano and music problems.
< Recording >
I highly encourage my students to record their progress. This can provide an objective standard for comparison and help you analyze your playing precisely. In my nine years of experience teaching music, I've found many students, including those advanced, already play certain sections very well, while other sections may not be not well enough. But they still try to improving those fine sections, while not aware of those weak sections.
Without an objective reference, it’s hard to distribute our effort precisely. This can lead to not only unstable performance, but also practicing without a precise goal can easily reduce enthusiasm. Recording your results and comparing them with those recordings you like on YouTube or Spotify can be an effective way to analyze your playing and set precise goals.
If you have a digital piano, I can help you produce a video of your performance for each session. This can be a tangible record of your efforts and you can share it with your friends and family via YouTube or other platforms.

ABOUT ME
I am an experienced music educator and have taught hundreds of lessons ranging from beginners to the graduate level. I structure my lessons around students' goals while encouraging them to keep open minds (and ears).
I am a graduate of Yale University, the École Normale de Musique de Paris, the Fontainebleau Conservatory, and the Royal Carillon School of Belgium. I currently make music in Paris, where I am a 2023/24 lauréat of the Cité internationale des arts and a Mortimer Hays Traveling Fellow from Brandeis University. I was the 2021-2022 recipient of a Fulbright-Harriet Hale Woolley Award at the United States Foundation in France, and received the 2022 Rosalind Swenson Fulbright Enrichment Award. I am also a Fellow of the Belgian-American Educational Foundation. My most recent musicological article, "Overtones, Sonic and Politic: Octatonicism, Minor Thirds, and Bells," was published in Volume 71 of the scholarly journal of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America in April 2022. Although I studied classical composition in school, I write music in many genres including classical, rock, jazz, pop, and film scores. I played the guitar and the drums in several rock and folk bands in high school. My favorite band is the Beatles. Outside of music, I enjoy making watercolor paintings of trees.

You know you/your band has some music ready to go out into the world. But how do you start doing that yourself? Everything starts with a good recording of your music and then mixing and mastering it and then sending your beautifully finished songs out into the world. But how does that work exactly and what do you need?
Well I can help with that.
I teach you...
-Work with Presonus Studio One (my personal choice) or any other DAW
-How to record instruments and vocals.
-How to balance the instruments with volume, panning, EQ, compression and much more. (mixing)
-How to finish your mixed songs so they sound as loud and punchy as songs on Spotify and the radio. (mastering)
-How to work efficiently and easily with your DAW.
-How to create backing tracks that live along with your band's performance so that you get that extra professional touch.
I can also support you with the purchase of your equipment such as. Headphones, studio monitor, DAW, audio interface, microphone, ect...
See you in class!
MAO on Ableton & Reaper: from the first note to the final mix: creative, technical and tailor-made coaching
Do you want to learn how to compose, mix or finalize your tracks with real sound?
Are you looking for someone who can explain things clearly, listen to you, encourage you and help you move forward without going around in circles?
Welcome.
My name is Tom and for 10 years I have been helping artists and enthusiasts create their music, better use their tools (Ableton, Reaper, Logic, etc.) and, above all, find their own sound.
· A clear, personalized method, at your own pace
· Solid foundations if you are a beginner (handling, composition, arrangements, etc.)
· Mixing and mastering courses
· Tools to unlock your creativity
· And an artistic eye to help you achieve your vision
Whether you are a complete beginner, with no knowledge of computer music or music, I will guide you step by step so that you quickly feel comfortable with the tools and can create your first pieces.
If you're self-taught, you may have already accumulated a lot of knowledge, but in a somewhat disorganized way: together, we'll structure all of that, clarify your basics and solidify your approach.
And if you are an artist already on the path, with projects or a vision under construction, I help you refine your universe, professionalize your sound, and go further in your artistic direction.
