Trusted teacher: De echte Portugese ervaring! Advantages of learning a new language: Learning a new language is fun. But what I’m (and you should be) after is not bilingualism but instead biculturalism. We think by aid of words. Therefore language shapes thought. In part this is because working in a second language slows down the thinking. No wonder people feel different when speaking a second language. And no wonder they feel looser, more spontaneous, perhaps more assertive or funnier or blunter. Studies show that being able to speak another language is generally linked to a more flexible brain, developing the brain’s ability to plan and prioritize. Also it betters our defenses against dementia in old age. Advantages of learning Portuguese: • 250 million native speakers worldwide • 5th most common language in the world • It has been an official language since 1297 • It’s usage is spread over 4 continents (Europe, South America, Africa, Asia) Now business, The pace, duration, frequency and schedule of the classes is totally up to the student to decide. The best case scenario is 1-2x per week depending on both parties availability. Focus on diverse subjects is possible, for example, grammar, diction, reading comprehension, written production, conversational skills. In case the student has no specific requests, together we will follow the guidelines of a trusted book (that I myself bring to the class and the student doesn’t need to acquire). The classes will rely also on bilingual children’s books and audio media. This double edged approach allows for fun learning ways and cultural assimilation. In every class the student will be directly influenced by worldwide Portuguese culture ( music, history, geography). Periodically we will evaluate how the classes are evolving so as to rapidly and effectively shift focus to where it is needed.

Trusted teacher: No one: … Hungarians: “Megszentségteleníthetetlenségeskedéseitekért!“ The fact that you have found my profile means that you are intrigued by Hungarian to some extent. Me as a polyglot linguist who is also a native speaker of this exciting and colourful language do share your appreciation. - Are you planning a vacation (or even moving) to Hungary and want to make the most of your experience with being able to communicate with the locals? (Believe me, they will really appreciate it!) - Are you interested because you want to speak to your significant other in their native language, or perhaps to rediscover your own roots? - Do you want to pick up a new challenge and learn a language that is known for its complexity? Whatever your goal, we can reach it together! Despite its notorious reputation among linguists and non-linguists alike, I can help you tame the beast and show you that the language of the Magyars in fact is way more systematic than many (including Hungarians) would like to admit ;) I have tutored over a dozen students in Hungarian from various nationality backgrounds across 3 continents, and I have a proven set of methods/materials for each of the 6 CEFR levels. The class contents are tailored to your own goals, pace and interests. As a rule of thumb, I like to start out with easy-paced classes for which no previous linguistic knowledge is necessary, so you can feel at ease while warming up to Hungarian. But since I am familiar with various layers of the language, we can also take a step forward and dive into more spicy topics such as etymology, descriptive grammar, poetry (you name it) if you are interested. In any case, you can expect a structured approach with clear and doable aims, lots of first-hand cultural notes and personalised home assignments that help your progress. If you want to start to learn Hungarian, don’t hesitate to send me a mail!

Trusted teacher: Would you like to learn one of the instruments which have more style possibilities? Would you like to know why many composers say that is a very powerful instrument because it fits in may situations? Did you know that in the Klezmer history clarinet substituted the violin for projection reasons but also because perfectly able to imitate the human voice, crying or laughing? Would you like to discover the fascinating world of clarinet? One of my priorities as a musician is the sound. I believe that with a beautiful and personal sound you are able at every level to transmit emotion and meaning, it doesn’t matter the difficulty or the level. So I try to focus first on awareness of what’s beautiful for the student and what’s not. Then through technique and repertoire (suggestions of the student or suggestions of mine that can help to grow the student curiosity), we develop the student knowledge. Always helping the student to understand -depending on his/her the theoretical level- what we are doing, putting together music and theory. And giving tools to expand the border, at all levels. I have knowledge and experience in Jazz, Classical, Klezmer, Choro Music and Improvisation. You just need a precious element! • Music Theory I focus on having a good basics, spending as much as we need to understand every single thing, because then with times it becomes more easy. I try to help the student simplifying the material because then, we only with ourselves with a good procedure of the basics to solve any problem. Only with one lesson, you will understand what I mean. I have experience in preparing students for exams, the ones for the semester as well as any official exam; doesn't matter if you have an intermediate theory level and you want to improve, or if you would like to be stronger solidifying the knowledge you have (which is always the best option), or if you don’t know anything about notes and music concepts and you would like to be familiar with them. Maybe you are an adult who always wanted to improvise but doesn’t know where to start…? The only thing you need is a good organization -which I can provide- to reach any goal!

Alex - Rotterdam48€
Trusted teacher: Through his studies in Rotterdam, Alex had the opportunity to learn guitar with teachers from different backgrounds and influences (classical, latin, jazz, flamenco, Turkish, Indian, jazz composition and pop). This led him to study his instrument and investigate music through multiple angles and perspectives, accumulating complementary knowledge to fully understand and synthesize its functioning. After achieving a degree in guitar (performance and pedagogy), he started to devise exercises and systems of learning through his own method, refining it as time went on. He then started to teach what he had learned and developed, first in private classes then through music schools. Alex's priorities through the lessons are development, motivation and interest. It's very important that there is a constructive evolution in the pupil's playing, a constant will to move forward, as well as pieces/songs that inspire him or her. It's important that the pupils learn through an efficient and personal method, but also through their own interest and repertoire (wishlist). In a teaching lesson the focus is put on : - guitar posture, technique and sound - timing and rhythmic feel - strumming and grooves - interpretation - theory and knowledge of music - improvisation - repertoire (on student's wishlist) There are three dimensions to a student's programme : scores, tutorials and coaching. Having a Master's degree in Jazz composition (Rotterdam), Alex designs the scores himself, making arrangements of pieces / songs in an accessible way, along with his method and exercises for guitar technique. The scores are written with a hybrid notation (music notation and tab notation), and with all the information necessary about the right and left hand. After having agreed on the pieces / songs to be worked on, the relevant score is shared and given at the lesson. The teacher goes through it, while he also plays it live to the pupil for even more reach. He then explains what needs to be clarified in order to prepare any homework. Finally, Alex creates a video tutorial about the piece or song that needs to be learned for the next lesson. This gives extra support when practising at home, in order to avoid any doubt and keep motivation up. A report is then created to keep track of what has been done as well as what needs to be worked on, in order to unlock technical requirements and complete a specific repertoire in a constructive and efficient way. Alex teaches in Rotterdam at home or at the pupil's own location ; lessons are in Dutch, English or French, for all ages and levels. The teacher mainly gives live lessons, where he works with his pupils on specific material (technique and repertoire). If for any reason a live lesson can't take place, it is of course possible to follow an online lesson. Lessons last 30 minutes or 45 minutes, weekly or biweekly.

Trusted teacher: I am a Chinese teacher. Currently, I live in Rotterdam, the Netherlands🇳🇱. I can offer online and offline classes at all ages and levels. The offline class is only for students based in the Netherlands. 🎓 master degree in linguistics certificate of teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages 🇨🇳 two years’ teaching Chinese to adults in China 🇫🇷 two years teaching children (5-15yrs old) at an international school in France 🇳🇱 currently teaching children from 4 yrs old at a Chinese school in the Netherlands ❤️ languages 🇨🇳🇬🇧🇫🇷🇳🇱 travel theatre music museum My teaching approach is to integrate the stories of Characters into lessons because I believe that the most powerful element of Chinese is its characters and they are the root of this language. The basic characters were originally drawings, which are closely related to their origin, culture, and history. Therefore I have a special interest in telling stories of Chinese characters and more importantly encouraging students to discover its beauty and build a relationship with them. If you learn some stories or even tell some stories by yourself, it'll be easier for you to understand the language and culture. Apart from learning characters, the purpose of the class is to enable: - beginners to communicate in Chinese for daily use purpose and read and write in short paragraphs; - intermediate students to communicate easily with native speakers and read and write short articles; - advanced students to communicate fluently with native speakers over a wide range of topics and read and write long articles. Learning materials including homework are designed/selected by myself based on students' level and needs. Trusted teacher: Ciao! I have been teaching Italian for the past ten years. I have taught privately and at language schools like La Scuola Italiana del Greenwich Village in New York and ItalCultura, the school of the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago. During the first few lessons I will make sure you have the tools to pronounce and identify all the sounds of the Italian language. This step is essential! And it will make everything easier afterwards. When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. We will use real songs, real literature, do real conversation and storytelling. When you are engaging all your senses it is easier to keep your mind relaxed and to remember new words. I will customize my materials to your interests, needs and desired pace. And because you are learning from a native Italian you will also learn about Italian culture and history. You will absorb a way of thinking, not just grammar rules. I speak a bunch of languages so I know a thing or two about how tedious language classes can be. My terrifying French teacher in middle school made us repeat the same fake dialogue from a really bad book ad nauseam, over and over and over again. Some of those dialogues are carved in my brain: “Bonjour, je m’appelle Richard Drapeau, je viens du Canada, je suis Canadien…” When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. We will use real songs, real literature, do real conversation and storytelling and we will go on “talking walks” because when you are engaging all your senses it is easier to keep your mind relaxed and to remember new words. I hold a degree in Lingue e Letterature Straniere (Foreign Languages and Literatures) from Università Roma Tre (equivalent to an American MA) and a Master’s of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Media from Columbia College Chicago. I wrote a thesis about translating a long epic poem by W. H. Auden and I tried to ride a horse across America.

Guitar lessons and music theory lessons in Rotterdam (Rotterdam)
Alex
Perfect teacher! I met Alex when I was buying a guitar from him and realised he teaches as well. I'd been self learning music theory and it was all over the place. Alex helped me understand chord theory in a much more practical way and an easy to learn format. Also, after some of the sessions he created fantastic video recording and explained the gist of that session so I could refer to when I was practising. Alex is very knowledgable and also a proficient musician. Certainly recommended.

Raef
Superb experience with Raef. I asked for his help to prepare a math assessment test with an enormous lack of basis but he accepted the challenge. I found out a nice teacher who is not afraid of explaining and repeating if necessary. I did enjoy his method with the whiteboard, it feels like you are in the same place and can interact on the same exercise. Either in English or french he will certainly be able to help you. He is super kind and flexible, I definitively recommend his services.

Learn Italian from a Roman artist in Rotterdam - order your coffee like a pro (Rotterdam)
Valentina
Valentina has been my Italian teacher since February. Since then, I have made great progress in learning Italian! She uses a very good method/book which also allows you to work online. But the best thing is the personal interaction with her, which really makes the difference: the explanation of grammatical stuff, the correct pronouncation and which words to use when and also some background information about Italy and the Italian people. A very pleasant and effective teacher! Alexander
