Mind, Self, and Consciousness: An Introduction to Philosophy
What is the nature of consciousness? Is there a self? Is the mind identical to the brain? Can life have meaning in a physical universe?
These are big questions that philosophy can help tackle. Together, we will talk about how to understand these questions more precisely, look at some answers, and learn how to approach both questions and answers using critical thinking tools.
Who is this class for? Students who've never taken philosophy, adults who are interested in exploring big ideas, and scientists and entrepreneurs who'd like to learn how to think about these questions in a more rigorous way.

About Me
I'm a university lecturer with a passion for making philosophy accessible to everyone. I have a Ph.D. in Philosophy from UNC-Chapel Hill, and I've taught at universities in the United States, Australia, the UK, and most recently, the Netherlands.I especially like working with students who've never taken philosophy before, as well as with those who have tried philosophy and found it annoying, frustrating, or impossible to understand. I've been there -- the mandatory philosophy course I had to take in college was a disappointment. I was lucky to experience better teaching after that, and I hope to help others discover philosophy, and to learn to do it on their own terms.
My expertise is in the philosophy of mind, ethics, bioethics, epistemology, philosophy of religion, and philosophy of art.

Anya really knows her way around both in breadth and depth of her field. She asks really cool questions in such a way, that it stimulates thinking together.
I can recommend her 100% based on the sessions we had and looking forward to the papers we will discuss :)
Have a research thesis (BA, MA, PhD) you've been struggling with for a while? Need help with defining your research topic or finding a good structure for what you want to say? Have a pressing deadline and a ton of work that still needs to be done or processed?
I offer thesis help and guidance to help you get to the finish line with ease and on time.
Daily meetings are available for projects with urgent deadlines.
Together, we'll explore core questions in philosophy of religion: Does God exist? What's the difference between religion and spirituality? Is it possible to prove that there is a supernatural realm? What does a materialist worldview imply about the existence of the mind - or the soul? Can life be meaningful without faith?
Whether you just started thinking more about these issues - or have been pondering these questions for a while - this class will help you gain clarity about your beliefs (and experiences) and help you move forward in your journey.

How to be Happy: The Science and Philosophy of HappinessAre you happy?
Hey, my name's Dan, and I want to offer you a course all about exploring what happiness is and how you can achieve it. To do this, we'll be integrating modern scientific research and evidence with millennia of ancient philosophies, belief systems, and cultural insights. By doing this, you get all the wisdom you need and it's all backed by science!
This course will give you a new worldview on life to make you happier, wiser, and more self-aware. To do this, we don't just look at happiness- we look at human nature itself, evolution, the human brain, the body, morality, religion, emotions, meaning, self-actualisation, self-transcendence, and much more. All of these topics are explored from scientific and philosophical perspectives, drawing on what the experts and evidence in all these fields are saying.
And none of this is abstract: this whole course is all about giving practical advice to help you become the best version of yourself. But unlike other courses on happiness, all that advice is backed by real, trustworthy scientific research: so we know that it all works.
This course is for absolutely everyone. Whether you stopped science before GCSEs or chose it as your career, this course has a colossal amount of information that I've integrated from lots of different fields, and can present to you in an easy and friendly way.
For more information on the course's structure and what we'll be doing together, just drop me a message. Take care!

Courses in Philosophy, Ethics and Critical ThinkingPhilosophy is much more than a simple method; it's a more general way of positioning ourselves, even a way of life. At its core, it's critical thinking and the ability to see beyond what's left unsaid and unclear, and to find information, question, and arrive at a more nuanced vision of the world.
Together we will begin with everyday facts to explore the foundations of philosophy, look for clues in the history of thought and learn to be independent in our critical thinking.
I also support the questioning of major texts and problems posed in literature courses, philosophy courses in middle school, and preparation for the Swiss maturity, see prep for university studies.
NB: Particular interest in feminism to better understand current societal issues is welcome. I reserve the right to refuse any indecent or misogynistic contact.
