Hey! My name is Seán, and I am an Irish singer-songwriter based in London with 2 years of teaching experience. I teach a range of disciplines, including piano, guitar, vocals, songwriting, and music theory. Having taught students of all ages and different levels of musicianship, I am pleased to say that I have built long-lasting relationships with many of my students. With an emphasis on creativity and student input; my lessons allow students to discover their own playing style and musical direction. Hi! I'm an experienced clarinettist and teacher with a first-class honours degree from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where I won the college's concerto and chamber music competitions. Isaac :) About Isaac: Originally from a small village in Northamptonshire, Isaac is a Clarinettist currently based in London. He made his solo debut in St. David’s Hall, Cardiff performing Mozart’s Concerto For Basset Clarinet, after winning the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Concerto Competition 2021. In the past year, Isaac has received Masterclasses from world-leading musicians such as Yehuda Gilad, Laura Ruiz Ferreres, Matthew Hunt, Carlos Ferriera and Harri Mäki. His recent festival highlights include performances with Maya Iwabuchi and Robin Green at the Hellensmusic Festival, taking part in Amsterdam and Främnas Masterclasses with Arno Piters and Herman Stefansson respectively, and the Voksenåsen Sommerakademi with Bjorn Nyman and Andreas Sundén. In 2020, Isaac was invited to take part in the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival in Lübeck, which was unfortunately postponed due to the pandemic. Isaac has performed recently as guest principal, sub-principal and bass clarinet with London Mozart Players, Neville Holt Opera, English Symphony Orchestra, London Firebird Orchestra and UK Tours with The Music Agency. He has performed in concerts and masterclasses under the conductors such as Sir Andrew Davis, Maxim Vengerov, Hannu Lintu, Jac van Steen, George Jackson and Leif Segerstam. Isaac graduated first-class honours from RWCMD in 2021 under the tutelage of the previous and current heads of woodwind Nick Carpenter and Rob Plane, respectively. Alongside winning the college Concerto Competition, Isaac also won the RWCMD Woodwind + Chamber Music Prize and auditions for side-by-side schemes with BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Welsh National Opera. Also a passionate arranger, Isaac has recently had his work performed at Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) Young Creatives Projects, Durham University Big Band Charity Events, Dynamica Brass Academy, RWCMD Repertory by Entrepreneurial Performers Company (REPCo) and the Ormonde Ensemble, a wind quintet of which Isaac is a member. Isaac is currently furthering his studies with a Masters in Performance at the Royal College of Music, London, studying with Barnaby Robson, Richard Hosford and Tim Lines. He is the gracious recipient of scholarships from the HR Taylor Charitable Trust and Charlotte Fraser Foundation. He is also the 2022/23 holder of the Countess of Munster Trust Neil Black Award. Isaac is extremely grateful for their support as without it, his studies would not be possible.

I specialise in teaching music theory at all grade levels, aural and musicianship skills, preparation for GCSE and A level exams and tutoring in composition. I encourage students to feel confident about their skills but also to want to know more . I set homework after each session and encourage independent listening and small research tasks. Hey! My name is Richard and I give private lessons to all levels. For guitar, it is important that you can improve yourself in a pleasant environment in a fun way where your interests are central. Do you want to delve deeper into a certain style? Do you want to create your own sound on your guitar using amps, and pedals, ...? I can help you with all that! Knowledge of solfège or music theory is not required, we can always discuss this in class if you wish, but that is certainly not mandatory ;) I have been playing the guitar since I was 9 years old and for several years now I have been playing in professional bands with which I have been able to play on sugar rock, for example. The lessons would take place at my home in Mol or via webcam. If necessary, we can always agree on something else. Would you classify improvisation as composition or performance? Well actually it is both! When you improvise you are composing music on the spot, performing what you have made up at the same time as you have composed it. For many people improvisation is a scary word and having to improvise in a group or band is an alarming prospect. However, this really does not need to be the case. As long as you have a basic knowledge of how to play your instrument you will be able to improvise. Once you know the principle of how chords are formed you will soon be improvising with ease. The key to success is understanding chords. Once you know how chords are formed and know what notes make up a few chords you will be well on your way towards being able to improvise. We will, therefore, start by ensuring a firm knowledge of certain chords. After this we will progress to improvising a simple melody over the top of these chords. The next stage is to start using notes that are not in the chord. The process is then open ended with emphasis on developing the melody. If you play a keyboard instrument you will be able to improvise your own pieces and be able to entertain your friends at a moments notice. On the other hand if you play in a band or a group you will be well equipped to do a real 'jam' session. Whether you play a single line instrument (flute, saxophone, trumpet, violin etc.) or keyboard instruments, this class is for you.
