Piano lessons, from medieval to contemporary music for all ages

Hello!

I am a professional recorder and flute player with a passion for both early and contemporary music, offering lessons on the recorder, flute, piano, and music theory in the Amsterdam area and online.

I graduated with a Masters in recorder at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam Cum Laude, with a scholarship from The Countess of Munster Musical Trust. Previously, I graduated from the Royal College of Music London with a First-Class Joint Honours Bachelor’s degree in Flute and Recorder. In 2021 I was a finalist for the Moeck/SRP recorder competition as part of the London Early Music Festival.

I am an encouraging and dedicated teacher who believes that effective practice, rather than talent, is at the heart of any musical development. I share my expertise in how to practice well, varying your approach to make different connections rather than just repeating things - this also helps to keep practice interesting! I am also keen to help each student find their own voice and expression through music, tailoring lessons to each student's needs and goals.

I have specialist knowledge of medieval, renaissance, and baroque music, and can help students to develop skills in historical performance and ornamentation/improvisation.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

About Me

Daniel is a recorder and flute player with a passion for both early and contemporary music. “An exciting and versatile young recorder player, committed to pushing the boundaries of his instrument” (Erik Bosgraaf, 2021), Daniel is pursuing his own musical voice in myriad fields from renaissance consort music to contemporary music theatre productions. Daniel has just graduated from his Masters in recorder at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam for which he was awarded a scholarship from The Countess of Munster Musical Trust. Previously, he graduated from the Royal College of Music London with a First-Class Joint Honours Bachelor’s degree in Flute and Recorder.

Since 2019 Daniel has been a member of The Royal Wind Music, performing concerts across Europe and making appearances on Dutch and German TV and Radio. The group is a recorder double quintet and performs exciting new programs of renaissance music, completely from memory. Their latest programme is a celebration of the Dutch composer J. P. Sweelinck and will be premiered in October 2021. As a soloist, Daniel has researched and presented his own unique programs at the Open Recorder Days Amsterdam Fringe and in the Amsterdam concert series Les Goûts Réunis. He has also been selected as a finalist for the Moeck/SRP Recorder Competition, which will take place in November 2021.

In February 2020 together with Emily Bannister, Anastasia Terranova and Verena Barie, Daniel won Amsterdam’s Grachten Festival prize in the cross-over category for their music theatre performance that fused renaissance and electronic music, The Eternal Feminine. The performances are taking place in the fall of 2021 and are funded by the Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunst. Daniel’s playing is also featured in the recently released blockbuster film, The Green Knight, by director David Lowery. With his recorder quintet Five Spice, Daniel has performed in the Utrecht Early Music Fringe, Leipzig International Chamber Music Academy and the Uitmarkt Festival in Amsterdam as well as a tour in Denmark and Austria. Daniel has participated in recorder masterclasses with Pierre Hamon, Maurice Steger, Michael Form, Dorothee Oberlinger, Walter van Hauwe, and Paul Leenhouts.

From Jazz to Classical: Piano lessons in Amsterdam
Jazz Lessons in Amsterdam. Don't wait anymore and start your new hobby! If you love music and you feel the inner urge to learn it, I can help you out. I can teach students from all levels to play the piano. From Jazz style to Classical. After years of studying and practicing, I've concluded that the best way to learn music is by transcribing and singing. Music is like language, so I start by teaching how to connect the voice with the instrument. In a playful way, I will introduce you to harmony, teach you how to read music, compose your own tunes, and improvise. Side by side with theory according to your musical taste and preferences. I've been learning music since I was 3 years old and recently I've graduated with a Master's Degree at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam. Previously, I studied at ESMUC (Barcelona), Kunst Uni Graz (Graz), and Temple University (Philadelphia). I've been a professional performer since 5 years ago and I've performed in several countries around the world.

Yammy
Private Music Lessons for Piano, Violin and Erhu (Chinese violin)
As a Cambridge University graduate in the Faculty of Education, I am delighted to have settled down in the Netherlands since September 2019. I started piano at the age of 5, and music has been an important part of my life ever since. Classically trained as a violinist, I picked up another instrument named Erhu (Chinese violin) and became a professional performer. I am experienced in teaching both children and adults, from different cultural backgrounds. Also, I have been actively involved in both Western and Chinese orchestra since high school. Thanks to my years of experience in being an orchestra member and soloist, I am also familiar with orchestral music. As a humble music therapist, I am passionate about music and believe in the power of music. I trust that music is in everybody and I respect every student's individuality and thus tailor my teaching methods to develop my students' full potential. I started teaching in 2009 and most students put their trust in me when they first decided to learn an instrument. I also enjoy exploring the world of music with students with learning disabilities. I am proud to say, my students, aged from 5 to 60, are enthusiastic in playing the instrument they have chosen and keen to improve their skills following my advice. I adopt a flexible approach in teaching - I believe every student is unique and my job is to develop the strengths and improve the weaknesses. I put a lot of emphasis on a solid foundation in my teaching. For young children, I tend to use a more interactive approach to explain complicated music theories, yet strict in the fundamentals such as posture and rhythm. For adults, I am always happy to discuss with them my lesson plan and choose the best exercises and songs that suit their music interests and needs. For my students who would like to take exams, I am happy to tailor the lessons based on their progress. I believe in the quality of learning and understanding rather than the number of pieces that they learn. Many beginners and their parents have put their trusts in me and achieved distinction in their first ABRSM exam. I am fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, and a native speaker of Cantonese Chinese. I am happy to travel and travel costs will be added on the top of the standard tuition fee. *Proof of qualifications avaliable upon requests.

Classical piano lessons in Amsterdam, for children and adults
The class is offered to children and adults, who would like to discover the music world and broaden their understanding of this form of art. For children, it will be a nice, light, and creative journey since I spend quite a lot of time with kids of different ages. For adults, I could suggest either a fun way of learning or a deep and thoughtful approach to piano playing. I am flexible and open to the conversation! This also applies to the schedule, location, time, and the repertoire you/your child would like to play. Any wishes regarding the materials, goals, directions (etc.) of the class are welcomed and highly appreciated! Looking forward to meeting you and seeing your smile after the lesson! :)

Piano (any style!), Improvisation and Music Theory lessons
Hey there! If you have been thinking for a while about learning to play, improvise and read music scores on the piano, then this is the sign to start! My name is Enrique and I come from Andalucía, Spain. I am a Classical Piano student at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and I would be pleased to be your teacher. It will be great to teach you how to play your favourite music on the piano, but also about its language, reading and writing, that is, the music theory, or even how to start improvising your own music. All of this is actually interconnected and it is interesting to combine them in teaching. I adapt to any age, level or taste (you may prefer classical, jazz, pop... everything is welcome!). Lessons can be taught in English or Spanish. Thanks for your attention! Hope to help you soon ;)

Fiachra
Piano or music theory lessons for beginners or intermediate level
Hello! I am pleased to be offering piano lessons to beginner and intermediate-level students! Alongside the technicalities of playing the instrument, I have a broad knowledge of different genres of music. If you are interested in writing your own music, that is wonderful! I will be delighted to give you all the skills you need. We can begin with any genre of music from the first lesson. Knowledge of how to read sheet music is not necessary for beginners. I trained in piano at the TUD Conservatory of Music in Dublin, and have had many performance opportunities there and in Amsterdam. I have also been taking regular piano lessons at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam since I arrived here. I have taught piano in various different music schools and programmes in Ireland, but my main experience is in private teaching.
