Hola! My name is Laia and I am a student from Spain studying a MA in political science in Brussels. Therefore, my mother tongue is Spanish and Catalan. Moreover, I've had the opportunity to live and study abroad in countries like the United States, Germany and France and I have achieved the C2 level in english (Cambridge title), and the basic levels in French and German. I really like teaching languages since I believe learning idioms is a really useful skill and I can totally adapt to every type of class that the student desires (it can be online or at home, I could focus more on Speaking or the desired area, and I could also teach more than one student at a time). I have taught english to kids before and I really enjoy the experience of seeing people develop an interest for the Spanish/Catalan culture.

Originally from the UK, I have been working and travelling abroad for the last few years so I understand the difficulties and beauty of learning a new language. I enjoy working with conversation practice as well as more traditional methods of learning grammer - I believe it is important to adapt to each individual's needs and areas of interest in the process of helping them achieve their goals. I have worked as an English teacher to refugees as well as teaching dance and somatic movement practices online and in person. Currently I am based in Brussels but am happy to work online or come to you! In my own creative practice I work with poetry as well as performative spoken word, however I am happy to talk about a wide range of subjects with you. I will encourage you to read and discover new vocabulary at your own speed as well as in classes in a non-judgmental and fun atmosphere.

Whether English, mathematics or dance, each course is personalized, depending on the needs and abilities of my student. For mathematics and English courses, I first explain the general concepts and the theory, after which we work together on the examples. As for the dance, the class starts with the warming up of the body, which depends on the personal predispositions of the pupil-one practices special steps, choreographs, improvises, stretches, etc. As a dancer, I am professionally doing contemporary dance but I mix different styles: I also dance hip-hop and breakdance, I train in ballet to always keep, I have experience in oriental dance , which interests me a lot: I am then at your disposal if it is the choice of style!

I speak West Coast (California) English. It's the English you hear in your favorite California movies. I love to help friends who already speak "european street English" while HAVING FUN! English is a very essential subject that one must have in this ever growing world. We will be focusing on whatever you are currently doing at school or university, or if you have something in partciular you would like to learn or be familiar with. We will work at your pace some people are fast learners than others and it is completely understandable, so, whatever pace you feel comfortable with is how we will go. Working on the english accent, communication skills; learning how to hold a complex conversation not just the generic "how are you" that is often repeated when speaking to a British or American person.
