I have studied Italian for foreigners and I have a 7 years experience, both in class and online through zoom. My main students are Slavic speakers and because of this I would like to expand my web between all world speakers. Of course, I also make an effort to follow my students' preferences by preparing tailored lessons for them. I’ve never taught children before, but I’d love to give it a try. I provide all the necessary materials myself – I have digital books for all levels, including books for kids and teenagers. I also have a Zoom subscription that allows me to run high-quality lessons with no interruptions. As an Italian Opera singer, I help since many years singers with the right pronunciation of the repertoire they sing, helping them in shaping the language in a clear way, which also helps the singing. Our lesson will involve speaking, pronunciation exercises and singing. We will start the lesson by reading the text and finding the right direction and emphasis. We will focus on the sounds and how to produce them. In the second part of the lesson, we will apply all of the above to the singing!

I have taught privately and at language schools like La Scuola Italiana del Greenwich Village in New York and ItalCultura, the school of the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago. During the first few lessons I will make sure you have the tools to pronounce and identify all the sounds of the Italian language. This step is essential! We will use real songs, real literature, do real conversation and storytelling. When you are engaging all your senses it is easier to keep your mind relaxed and to remember new words. You will absorb a way of thinking, not just grammar rules. I speak a bunch of languages so I know a thing or two about how tedious language classes can be. My terrifying French teacher in middle school made us repeat the same fake dialogue from a really bad book ad nauseam, over and over and over again. Some of those dialogues are carved in my brain: “Bonjour, je m’appelle Richard Drapeau, je viens du Canada, je suis Canadien...” When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. I wrote a thesis about translating a long epic poem by W. H. Auden and I tried to ride a horse across America.
