Composing music can be intimidating, but it’s actually stimulating and hands-on, and it’s not all about sitting at a table in front of a paper imagining music. In these lessons you’ll learn about composition techniques, harmony, melody, rhythm, form, composing through improvisation, and much more. Everything you need to translate your ideas into your own preferred genre of music. Depending on your background and musical preferences, we will adjust the content of the lessons so that it fits you best. The lessons can be done in English, Dutch, Spanish or Catalan.

About Me

I'm a composer, pianist and music teacher from Barcelona based in Rotterdam. I've been teaching music since I was old enough to be able to pass that knowledge to other younger students, either through piano, music theory, or music and technology. In addition, I’ve always enjoyed the feeling when a student finally understands what you’re trying to explain.

In my artistic career I have vast experience with composing for different instruments and electronic music. I currently collaborate in multidisciplinary projects with dance and other art forms. These experiences allow me to have different perspectives and approaches to art which I use to enrich my music and teaching practice.

Ableton Live is a powerful tool for making music and designing your own music sets to play live. In the lessons, you will learn how to work with the software and music production tools, learn the tips and tricks, as well as the musical terms necessary to translate your own ideas into music, and you’ll be able to prepare everything for a live show or a master track. Besides the more technical approach, we will also work on composition techniques and how to unleash your creativity. Before moving to the Netherlands, I spent six years as the resident artist with an acclaimed a cappella theater group in Hong Kong.

My extensive background includes coaching amateur a cappella groups, teaching vocal lessons in Hong Kong’s secondary schools, and providing choir lessons at the European School The Hague since 2021. Music is Play! and everyone is its own game.
Understand and make only the music you like. If it isn't fun, it can't be music!

I studied a classical piano bachelor, and later a jazz master and a live electronics master. In the meantime, I have been teaching music and playing synths, drum machines, and computers. It's longer than 5 years now!
Electronic music is a very vast world. The possibilities are endless. But do you need to learn everything, or only what interests you to make the music you want to do? From listening and analyzing a song you like, we will go through the necessary knowledge for you to achieve it:
- What do you need to build your home studio in order to create something similar?
- Which instruments (or plugins) are being used.
- Whether or not a knowledge of music theory is necessary.
- And in which different ways / through which paths could you achieve something like what you desire?

At the same time that we analyze and learn, you are also going to be encouraged to create! Practice makes the master, and the more you create, the more familiar you'll be with the tools and the environments that we learn in class. A part of the class is also going to be dedicated to listening to what you created and going through different ways we may improve it.

For people interested in live electronics (live-processing an acoustic instrument or programming live sets), I also have knowledge of Max MSP and I can teach the basics or help you program any kind of device you propose.

PD: I have also experienced imparting piano lessons, which is also a very important part of my professional practice. In case you are interested, it is also possible to mix the two worlds and create any kind of path between piano, synths, beats, and home studio techniques.
