Hi, I’m Sofia, a 19-year-old university student. I grew up attending an international school where I used English daily in both academic and social settings. As a result, I speak English at a native level. Although I do not yet have formal tutoring experience, I’m motivated, patient and passionate about helping children/students improve their English skills. I’m flexible and happy to adapt to the student’s needs - whether they want to focus on speaking, reading, listening, writing, or need help with homework. If a student prefers to practice speaking or reading only, that’s perfectly fine. Parents and studente are welcome to share their goals and preferences. I’m available every day until mid-September. From end September onward, I will be back at university, so I’ll mainly be available on weekends. My evening schedule during the week is still unknown, but this can be discussed later on.

Hallo, ik ben Sofia, 19 jaar oud en universiteitstudent. Als kind heb ik op een internationale school gezeten, waar ik jarenlang dagelijks Engels gebruikte in zowel academische als sociale context. Daardoor beheers ik de taal op moedertaalniveau. Hoewel ik nog geen formele ervaring heb als tutor, ben ik gemotiveerd, geduldig en enthousiast om kinderen/studenten te helpen groeien in hun Engelse taalvaardigheid. Ik ben flexibel en pas me graag aan de wensen van de student aan. Of het nu gaat om enkel spreken, lezen, luisteren, schrijven of hulp bij huiswerk - alles is beschikbaar. Als een student bijvoorbeeld vooral wil oefenen met spreken of lezen, dan is dat helemaal goed. Ouders en studenten mogen altijd aangeven wat ze nodig hebben. Tot midden september ben ik elke dag beschikbaar. Vanaf eind september start mijn opleiding opnieuw, waardoor ik vooral in het weekend les zal kunnen geven. Mijn lesrooster is nog niet bekend, maar dat kunnen we samen bespreken.

I’m currently a university student studying Chinese Studies. I speak Romanian, English, Dutch, and some Chinese. While I don’t have formal tutoring experience yet, I’ve helped friends improve their English—especially with speaking, conversational confidence, and reading pace. I know what it’s like to feel shy or unsure when learning a new language, so I always aim to create a calm and supportive environment where students feel comfortable and never pressured. Everyone learns differently, and I enjoy adapting my lessons to suit each student’s needs.

Ik geloof dat taal tegenwoordig een krachtig hulpmiddel is. Het helpt ons niet alleen de wereld vanuit een ander perspectief te begrijpen, maar het leert ons ook de cultuur van de mensen die het gebruiken. Ik heb nu 5 jaar de kans gehad om met tieners te werken als student-medewerker in een science center, als mentor en docent in een ander vakgebied. Wat ik van die ervaring heb geleerd, is dat je eerst en vooral een vriend moet worden met hun student, om hun behoeften en hun houding te begrijpen. Ik zal mijn best doen om de lessen leuk te maken door audio- en beeldmateriaal te combineren in mijn lessen. Mijn vakgebied is Sociale en Culturele Antropologie.
