This class introduces students to the fundamentals of playing the viola and violin in a supportive, beginner-friendly environment. Students will learn how to properly hold and care for the instrument, develop basic bowing techniques, and begin reading simple music notation. Through guided exercises, rhythm practice, and easy melodies, participants will build foundational skills in tone production, posture, and musical expression. The class also emphasizes listening skills, ensemble awareness, and confidence while playing with others. No prior musical experience is required. By the end of the course, students will be able to play simple pieces and have a strong foundation for continuing their viola studies.

You will learn the basics of tone production and mechanics, as well as a little music theory and ear training. You will also sight-read occasionally. We can also prepare you for any upcoming performances you may have! You will build a strong foundation so that you have more time to focus on the bigger picture and musicality.
