I’m Vladimir, an enthusiastic and experienced language tutor of Spanish and Italian at any levels. I’m currently studying at Edinburgh, getting a Masters and I hope to be your next language tutor!

I’m a mother-tongue speaker in English and Italian and I have achieved a B2 in the Spanish DELE qualifications. I am also an experienced language tutor, having taught students of all ages and level over the course of the past five years.

My ultimate goal is to help you achieve their desired proficiency level, whether that be learning the language from scratch or consolidating knowledge. Classes are tailored to the student’s needs and objective where we can cover any of the essential skills of language learning: vocabulary, grammar, reading, speaking, writing and listening. By providing a full-immersion experience, I make learning languages fun and accessible to all kinds of learners.

While studying Social Anthropology and Politics, I would like to exploit my love for languages as well as my inner desire of bringing with me a piece of my cultural background. Teaching is a mutual exchange in which everyone can enlarge his points of view. My lessons are shaped according to needs and goals students want to meet. I think everyone has his own better way of learning and peculiar strengths and weaknesses, and it is important to know these ones in order to succeed.
I adopt an innovative approach, which involves speaking, listening and studying with interactive media. My purpose is to work on the four parts of the language (Speaking, Writing, Listening and Reading). I carefully select the material I use.
I want my lessons to be stimulating and consider them to be a moment of mutual growth. I like my students to be enthusiastic of learning and always ready to be challenged.
I have studied Latin language and literature, Italian, Ancient Greek, philosophy (etcetera) for 5 years and I have been teaching for three years. Thanks to private tutoring, I have developed a profound empathy (it is important to recognise needs and skills of students since I tailor my classes according to their attitudes and levels) as well as effective methods to overcome difficulties learners would eventually meet.
I'm very dynamic so I do not want standard classes in which students simply receive notions, but a stimulating environment where everyone can learn by getting into Italian culture as well as making comparisons and discussing about different topics.

I focus also in the main fields of the langugage you are most interested in, as long as you need to improve a specific area. I have been teaching different ages, so I would prepare the lessons depending of your characteristics (from school homework until learning as a hobby).

The class is intended for people who wish to know more about italian language and culture. Classes are structured on italian conversations and/or italian history and culture (food, modern history, cinema..). Requests from students will be added to the classes if possible :)

Now that we live in a multicultural world it is very important to acknowledge different ways and languages to communicate. It is useful for developing on different personal levels such as, socially, professionally and intellectually.

You will learn basic understanding of the language, grammar rules to learn to construct sentences properly and colloquial speaking which is very important to understand different dialects. The point of this is to open doors to new opportunities, get involved in new cultures and have fun!

My lessons are a mix of conversational Italian and grammar explanations, with the aid of written and online resources to practice vocabulary and grammar. I typically start from the Italian words and expressions you might already know (everyone knows more Italian than they think!) and take it from there, with plenty of simulated scenarios where you get to speak like a native among natives (and I get to ridicule myself imitating all sorts of Italian people!).

When explaining a new topic, I like to encourage students to use their insight, nudging them when necessary. I have observed how even absolute beginners can easily guess the meaning of a new word or the way a certain word will behave, once certain patterns between and within Italian and English (and possibly other languages) are highlighted. When a student reaches the correct conclusion with just a little help, that is highly rewarding for both the student and the teacher!

For more advanced students, the focus is often on vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar nuances. I like to choose a topic together and subsequently bring a written text (like a newspaper article), from which to extract more specialised vocabulary, and which will serve as a basis for discussions and debates.
