English Literature is an extremely important and, for many students, compulsory part of education. This class is about improving the skills needed for close, thematic reading of both old and more contemporary texts. Using overarching themes found across literature, as well as giving suggestions for other relevant texts, this class aims not only to help pass any exams, but to also enrich your understanding and appreciation of the subject.

Outside of exams, especially for any adults, this class can be a more freeform discussion of novels or poetry for anyone who wants to enjoy literature on a deeper level but isn't quite sure where to start or what avenues of thought to explore.

For people wanting to use french in everyday situations, I propose the communicative approach, focus on communication rather than grammar structures. This approach takes the focus off the language by stressing the content. The idea is to communicate fluently.
(If you were to learn how to repair a bicycle, for example, you would learn bike vocab then would then be able to communicate in French by using the relevant vocabulary and conveying their feelings, ideas and thoughts.)

For students wanting to learn French in a more literate approach, I propose analytic lectures of French classics, or any desired text. This can help for more elaborate grammatical structures and thorough vocabulary.

Being Anglo-Norwegian but having grown up in Italy I realise how fortunate I am to have had a bilingual upbringing. Mastering a new language presents many benefits from strengthening cognitive abilities to providing more job opportunities or simply making travel easier and more fun.

In this class, you will learn key tips on how to improve your close analysis, specifically working on spotting and defining literary devices while also making links to how they function. I have been teaching Italian for more than 30 years. I started in Milan, I then went to San Francisco and now here in London. My first lesson with you would be to assess your level and start speaking Italian by writing in the chat if we are on Skype or on your notebook if we meet face to face. I use also paintings to explore vocabulary and if you live here in London, we would meet at the National Gallery for example and explore the Italian language through what we see in the painting.

I offer help getting to grips with the ELAT paper as well as help understanding how to prepare for your Oxbridge interviews. We can even start from the beginning and work on your personal statement.
Oxbridge applications have a very specific style to them that is often quite different to the teaching of English at most secondary schools.
