My personal style in teaching English focuses on helping you to develop your own speaking style. There is no such thing as "perfect" English. Spoiler alert: we all have accents! It is just about finding the point you want to make with the words that best suit your personality. I would love to help you find your own voice in English!

In my sessions, we will gauge your goals and set some practical targets so that we have a common understanding on what "fluency" means to you. I have a relaxed yet focused style where we drill down on your biggest pain points. Together, we will develop the tools to navigate difficult conversational situtations where you feel lost. I look forward to meeting you. I know we can learn a lot from each other!

Ciao! My name is Renn and teach English and Business English. I currently live in Bologna, where I am pursing an MBA. I have experience in Spanish and Japanese but am focused on perfecting my Italian at the moment. I am from the east coast of the United States (Charlotte, North Carolina), where I taught English in my spare time as a hobby.

Education

Bachelor of Arts, Mathematics & Finance. Currently in Bologna doing an MBA (master in economia aziendale), with a focus in Supercars, Superbikes, and Motorsports.

Learning ESL or French as a non-native speaker can seem like a daunting task. Fortunately, my style of tutoring incorporates lessons plans with entertaining exercises and activities. Each lesson I establish a cultural objective to give some cultural significance to the information. I also include a grammar and lexical objective which will target key vocabulary and grammar structure common when speaking about specific cultural topics. Each session begins with a warm up to test your memory and present new information, a production to apply the grammar and lexical tools With exercises, and an independent short project to complete at the end.

I am very dynamic and fun and tailor the lesson to your needs and way of learning. Of course we focus on speaking and listening most, since those areas are neglected in Italian schools.

This class is made for you if you are looking forward to learn a new language without pressure and while having fun !

I have more than 5 years of experience when it comes to teaching English as a second language. My introduction to teaching was a volunteering project in a French high school, then it became my profession when I started working in a Hungarian language school. In the school I held business English and everyday English courses for all levels, mostly teaching small groups of adults. Apart from that, I also held private Hungarian and French lessons. Now I am working in a language school in Italy, as well as teaching online because I travel a lot, and working remotely allows me to keep doing what I love, from anywhere in the world.

When you become my student I will ask about your goals, assess your level, and recommend a course book based on your level and needs. In case you would only like to practice communication or wouldn't like to learn from a book, we can also simply talk and occassionally use some worksheets to make the lessons more varied and enjoyable. All my lessons are generally very communicative – I try to stay in the background and correct you when necessary, and guide you through the exercises instead of giving you the answers. From experience I know that real learning happens when you figure things out for yourself, and not when you are passively listening for your teacher's explanations.:)
