Instead of relying on memorising formulas, I teach students how to derive the formulas themselves, build upon their previous knowledge and use them to solve complex questions in a simple way, building their confidence in the process. To facilitate this, I use metaphors and every-day things to construct stories that help students remember concepts and relationships between them. My lessons are tailored to each student's needs, preferences and learning style so I am able to accommodate specific requests. I can help students work on improving both overall understanding of the subject as well as detailed and thorough understanding of specific topics/sub-topics. As someone who sat these exams myself, I know what the most common mistakes in each topic are, the best exam techniques and have lots of tips, tricks and resources I can share! Trusted teacher: Approach to Teaching – I favor a structured approach. I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catering to the student's specific needs. – Academic lessons tend to be structured around specific sections of the syllabus, or particular topics that students require help with. – I employ a seminar-style format. My students are of differing ages and stages of proficiency, so I have plenty of experience teaching at all levels. Availability The length and frequency of sessions can be determined by the student's requirements and availability. We will work not just to close any gaps but also help the student in learning how to optimize private study. For students who need to get up to speed with content, I can offer sessions where I present you with ideas and new ways of understanding the topic. I approach each topic according to the immediate and long-range needs of the student, whether they require help in comprehending their topic, in preparing for exams, or in planning, executing, and proofing written work. Depending on the desire and temperament of the student, I can gear my lessons either towards cramming and exam survival or towards the nurturing of lifelong learning. My general policy is also to be flexible with what the student needs of me. For example, my payment is for the hour, however I am happy to look over work and send comments. My fee is not just one hour as I work with the student in all aspects of their learning via e-mails outside the lessons. My first lesson with Daniel was just what I wanted and more. Daniel made me feel very comfortable and let me play some music I had been working on. Highly recommended! It was really nice to receive a message from Lou regarding our search for guitar lessons! Due to corona and a closed school, my 13 year old had more time to play guitar and she wanted to learn more about composition/scales.
