What is the nature of consciousness? Is there a self? Is the mind identical to the brain? Can life have meaning in a physical universe? These are big questions that philosophy can help tackle. Together, we will talk about how to understand these questions more precisely, look at some answers, and learn how to approach both questions and answers using critical thinking tools. Who is this class for? Students who've never taken philosophy, adults who are interested in exploring big ideas, and scientists and entrepreneurs who'd like to learn how to think about these questions in a more rigorous way.

In addition, philosophy grants us a view of the tumultuous development and change of thought throughout different historical epochs. About this course: I know that Philosophy is not an easy subject, especially in the initial courses where professors commonly point at a random chair and try to make profound points about Platonic thought. Aqui, buscaremos compreender os meandros do enredo, aprofundar a análise dos personagens e desvendar as camadas de significado presentes na obra que a construíram, visando enriquecer a experiência literária e ampliar nossa compreensão da filosofia existencial. I am specialised in film history and theory, which I've been studying for years and know extensively. You could be someone curious about film who wants to get a grasp of the old calssics; or you could be a cinephile who wants to deepen her or his knowledge of the field and think critically about cinema. Some topics will include New Korean Cinema, Contemporary French Cinema, Experimental Film, French New Wave, Film and Philosophy, Hollywood Cinema, Postmodern Cinema, Documentary Theory, Queer Cinema, Feminist Cinema, Black and Postcolonial Cinema, and Ecological cinema. I also teach contemporary art history, specifically from the 1960s onwards, with a focus on performance, installation and video art, as well as their broader cultural background and relationship to the other arts. Some of the artists that will be studied are Cindy Sherman, Steve McQueen, Chantal Akerman, Shirin Neshat, Marina Abramovic, and Ana Mendieta.

I'm an Oxford University graduate who provides personalised History of Art tutoring lessons! I love using lots of images of art to develop the student's visual analysis skills, but equally we can work on essay and writing skills, or just use our time to develop the student's interest in art!

Art classes These classes focus on developing the skills to produce artworks utilising diverse media. The techniques I teach are drawing, painting, sculpture, and engraving, as well as mixed media, where students experiment a combination of techniques and materials, such as photomontage, xilocollage, building of sculptures with non-conventional objects, etc. Art appreciation & Art History I use a combination of techniques for Art Appreciation and Art History classes. Some are based on the Visual Thinking Strategies method and guided enquiry, as well as on my background in drama to relate to artworks with all the senses and the emotions. Similarly, my guided observation works on helping students identify and understand compositional principles. The aim of these classes is to get learners thinking about what they see and what it could mean. This can be done with any sort of image. This type of approach is particularly important nowadays that human culture has become eminently visual. And students extract enormous joy by sharing and discussing their ideas.

As a French art history student in the Netherlands, I offer courses in the disciplines I specialize in: French and art history. I have completed my academic career as I am in M2 this year! Thanks to my literary background I am used to teaching French to all levels and ages: beginners or advanced! During our lessons we will discuss grammar and vocabulary as well as French culture. That's why I also offer art history classes (in French or English): we can either focus on learning about the art of a specific period or combine learning French and art history by doing art history classes in French on French art! In my lessons, I create a friendly environment to teach how to analyse paintings having factual information, and how to look at the art from the big scale perspective. The lessons are specifically tailored to my student's interests, weaknesses and concerns and from this nurture a solid learning style that they will be able to take with them to further education. I have a methodical approach to learning where every lesson is planned, and materials are distributed afterwards to the student. I am always ready to adapt the lessons quickly to the level of the student’s preparation and knowledge, receiving feedback from parents, students or teachers.

Oral Communication This course emphasizes the development of fluency and intelligibility in spoken English. Through individual and group activities, students work on improving pronunciation, practicing conversation strategies and delivering oral presentations.

One of the main goals I try to achieve as a tutor is to encourage my students to explore the world around them from a new perspective. With 1-1 teaching, I am able to create lessons that are specifically tailored to my student's interests, weaknesses and concerns and from this nurture a solid learning style that they will be able to take with them to further education. Currently, I am studying for my second degree in History of Art and have strong and extensive knowledge in structuring essays and approaches to the humanities. Honing and improving essay writing skills will prove invaluable to students when reaching higher education and exams which I believe my tutelage would help with! I usually have a methodical approach to learning where each lesson is planned out with upcoming exams, weak subjects and repeated mistakes in mind. I always find that my students work better when they have small and achievable goals to reach in each session. As an example, my lessons are structured with upcoming homework as a first target with each subject's homework being one goal smashed. After that, revision or any marked work with mistakes/problem areas is looked into and divided into sections/goals that they can achieve. I usually create a points system where with enough points they win a small prize. This is not a requirement of my teaching but I find it works very well! I also discuss with parents before starting tutorials what they know to be their weaker academic points, how best they respond to teaching and any feedback they may have from teachers with regard to the work outside school. Lessons are always planned with the student's learning style in mind and I am always open to adapting and receiving feedback from parents, teachers and students. Should a student find my teaching style, not to their liking, I will always be happy to change and amend my style to fit them.
