Learning how to play the saxophone can bring a lot of joy and a sense of fulfilment to you or your children live.
I'm a professional saxophonist, I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Music and I'm currently doing my Master's Degree in Music Education.
I teach general music to young children and saxophone to different ages (from 6 to 60). I’m passionate about educating and inspiring people through music. My biggest hope is for all students to find joy in playing and sharing the beauty of music with others around.
I teach private saxophone lessons to all ages, all levels of learning welcomed! Each lesson is developed according to each student’s needs, interests and personal goals. I believe that working uniquely with each student is essential in providing lessons that are both a rewarding and creative experience.
The classes can be led in my private studio in Lisbon, Portugal or online (in Portuguese, Spanish or English).
Informations supplémentaires
Bring your saxophone, reeds and neckstrap. I will provide you with extra materials such as music scores and various exercises so that you can practice and play alone in between classes.

Présentation
Hello! My name is Joana Sá, I am a performer and educator based in Lisbon, Portugal.

My music approach is of everlasting curiosity, exploring a diverse range of genres, repertoire, and sound possibilities. I'm constantly collaborating with composers in the creation of new and innovative works for saxophone. I also love collaborating with other musicians and artists from different fields.
I've performed in several music festivals notably Midwest Clinic (Chicago, USA); Creative Fest; Festival Música Viva; Festival DME – Dias de Música Eletroacústica; Reencontros de Música Contemporânea; Festival Internacional de Saxofone de Palmela; MWood’Art Festival Internacional de Madeiras; Cistermúsica, among others. She has also performed in non-music related contemporary art festivals notably Guimarães Noc Noc and BoCA – Biennial of Contemporary Arts.

Along with my active performing activity, I am a passionate music teacher, giving general music lessons to children and saxophone lessons in my private studio in Lisbon, or online.
In 2019, I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Saxophone Performance at Lisbon Superior School of Music, where I'm currently doing my Master’s Degree in Music Education - Saxophone and Chamber Music.

It is never too late to start or resume learning piano! My teaching experience makes me a witness to this.

Perhaps you came looking for piano lessons because you wish to be able to play some particular pieces, or to develop specific skills. Or maybe you don't know what your goal is yet, but are fond of the sound of the piano and want to dive into this wonderful instrument. Whatever the case, I am looking forward to hearing from you and discussing your next step!

I try as much as possible to tailor the work with each individual student aiming at the goals set and the student's musical tastes. This becomes more the case the higher the student's level of experience. Nevertheless, beginners are also encouraged to suggest music for themselves to learn.

The work on pieces is combined with other important activities designed to develop finger dexterity, hand coordination, rhythmic sense, music reading, playing by ear, etc. The Cortot, Hanon and scale exercises are some of my frequent choices for the technical work.

For young beginners, I defend a no-book approach during the first 2 or 3 months, for three main reasons: it makes learning more fun, it unlocks our creative potential and it allows us to explore the instrument rather confidently and freely. Instead of learning how to read right from the start, students have the opportunity to play games, listen to music, sing, compose, and improvise over backing tracks, developing the core skills necessary for any musical activity later on. After this period, it is then time to introduce them to a method book. The one I recommend the most is Piano Safari.

For teenage and adult beginners, the activities described above are selected and adjusted, and theory concepts may be introduced at an earlier stage. If desired, graded level series such as the RSL Classical or Contemporary Piano, among others, may be opted for.

Please notice that my scheduling may not always be up to date on this website, so the best way to know my availability is sending me a message. Feel free to get in touch for any other questions as well!

Looking forward to meeting you soon,

Rodrigo
