Mein Name ist Birgit. Ich habe klassische Violine und Kammermusik an den Musikhochschulen Köln/Rheinland und Maastricht (NL) studiert. Meine prägenden Lehrer waren Prof. Hariolf Schlichtig (ehemals Bratscher im Cherubini-Quartett), Prof. Charles-André Linale (ehemaliger Primarius im Orpheus-Quartett) und Prof. Szreder (bekannt für seine Konzerte mit zeitgenössischer Musik).
Meine drei aufeinander aufbauenden Studiengänge habe ich mit einem Diplom für Instrumentalpädagogik, Künstlerischer Reifeprüfung und Kammermusikexamen jeweils mit Bestnote abgeschlossen. Seither folge ich in der Musik und auch persönlich fortwährend einem Strom der Weiterentwicklung, weil für mich Stillstand undenkbar und lebenslanges Lernen dagegen sehr erfüllend ist.
Ich bin regelmäßig in Konzerten mit verschiedenen Duo-Partnern und Ensembles zu erleben. Dabei habe ich viele Jahre klassische Kammermusik gemacht, dazu kamen Zigeunermusik, Klezmer und Freie Improvisation.
Ich bin sehr experimentierfreudig und liebe "Crossover" aller Art mit klassischer Geige und auch elektrischer Geige.
Ich habe mittlerweile 5 CDs mit eigenen Stücken, teils komponiert - teils improvisiert, herausgebracht.

Meinen ersten Geigenschüler unterrichtete ich bereits, als ich 16 Jahre alt war. Nach meinem Abitur begann ich, parallel zu meinem damaligen Musikstudium,an einer Jugendmusikschule im Rheinland Geige zu unterrichten.
Nach meinen abgeschlossenen Studien unterrichtete ich zusätzlich zu meinen Privatschülern an der Jugendmusikschule in Aachen. Seit 2008 lehrte ich an der Staatlichen Jugendmusikschule in Hamburg sowie am Staatlichen Konservatorium in Schwerin viele Jahre lang Geige, Bratsche, Orchesterleitung und Kammermusik. Über 30 Jahre begleitete mich ein großer und treuer Privatschülerschwarm. Diesen mit Hand und Herz zu betreuen, war und ist mir eine große Freude.

Ich liebe es, die Fähigkeit zum Spiel der Königin der Instrumente, der Geige, weiterzugeben, inclusive ihrer großen Schwester, der Bratsche ( Viola).

Are you a beginner?? No worries: no experience is required! 😁
I can teach you the basics to produce sounds with your saxophone: position of the embouchure (teeth, tongue, lips and vocal cords' position, an element often forgotten), fingerings, use of diafragma,...
After the first two lessons spent on the mouthpiece and neck for the sound production, we will immediately start to play some super easy duos together to practice your capacity of listening, pay attention to the other, ear training as well. I normally use the book of Peter Wastall (titled Learn as you play) as support, but it is not mandatory. There are plenty of good books btw!

Are you an intermediate / advanced student?? I am sure you can still improve in all the basics, but on a different level. I'll teach you the importance of the "voicing" (technique named by the american saxophonist and pedagogue Donald Sinta) to improve your sound production and projection as well as the capacity of correcting and improving the intonation. You can learn all about phrasing and music interpretation, from tonal music until contemporary atonal compositions. And still, you can improve your playing together, practicing in duo on different aspects like tuning, balance, interpretation, performance etc.

Ich heiße Toby und bin ein professioneller Bratschen- und Geigenlehrer in Berlin. Ich unterrichte seit über 10 Jahren Schüler aller Niveaus und unterrichte auf Englisch, Deutsch, Russisch und Französisch - bei den Studenten, bei mir oder online.

Neben regelmäßigem Instrumentalunterricht und Ensemble-Coaching für alle Altersgruppen und Niveaus habe ich zahlreiche professionelle Workshops geleitet, darunter 'Music First' und 'Music Masters' in London, und war Dozentin beim Primary Arpeggione Viola Course und Springgrove Music Competition. Ich begleite regelmäßig Schüler am Klavier und bereite sie auf musikalische und akademische Prüfungen auf allen Ebenen vor, einschließlich Musiktheorie, Gehörbildung und Blattspiel. Derzeit bin ich Mitglied der European String Teachers' Association und habe an ESTA-Konferenzen in ganz Europa teilgenommen.

In den Jahren 2019 und '22 nahm ich am Internationalen Musikerseminar in Prussia Cove teil und arbeitete in den letzten Jahren mit den Komponisten Garth Knox, Vasilis Alevizos und Thomas Jones an deren neuen Werken.

Ich spiele in einer Reihe von Ensembles und bin zweimal mit Musikern der Berliner Philharmoniker und dem Klarinettisten Matthew Hunt beim HellensMusic Festival aufgetreten, sowie mit Claudio Mehner und Christoph Poppen in Santander, Spanien und mit Mitgliedern des ARC-Ensembles beim Music of Exile Festival in Toronto, Kanada.

Als Mitglied des European Union Youth Orchestra 2018 und des National Youth Orchestra GB 2015 trat ich in zahlreichen Radiosendungen und Fernsehübertragungen der BBC Proms auf und war am NYO-Bildungsprogramm "Inspire" in Schulen in ganz London beteiligt, einschließlich Workshops und interaktiven Aufführungen in der Royal Festival Hall.

Many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because explanations often remain abstract or disconnected from real musical practice. In these lessons, I help you understand what is really happening in harmony and counterpoint, step by step, through clear explanations and guided practice.

We work on concrete musical examples and written exercises, focusing on logic, clarity and musical sense. Lessons are adapted to the student’s actual level and specific difficulties, whether you are a conservatory student, a university student, a music teacher, or an independent learner.

I offer violin lessons for all ages and levels, in English or in French.

I believe in the importance of flexibility, that my job as a teacher is not to be stuck in my ways or methods but to be open to what you as an individual are seeking. I'd happy to find out what that is.

You could be a complete beginner who fell in love with the violin, or a good intermediate player who wishes to come back to the violin, or someone needing some help to prepare for an audition, or maybe you only want to play a specific type of music... In all cases, we could make it work.

I am also convinced that the relationship one has with the violin should be built out of physical ease and love for music. We often hear that the violin is a very difficult instrument, and although that is true to some extent, it doesn't need to be. I truly believe in the importance of physical exploration with the instrument to find what works best for you.

Finally, my specialization in early music (baroque and classical periods) gives me a unique approach on the classical repertoire, the evolution of musical style, and different technical insights. This background allowed me to dwell deeper in certain subtleties such as ornamentation, articulation, just intonation and sound production (I personally play on gut strings).

I also offer music theory lessons.

If you are more advanced and interested specifically in baroque violin lessons, that is of course also possible.
