I’m Jeri, 33, Irish, and have been living in Uruguay for the past year. Full time, I manage a sales and project management team in Microsoft’s consultancy division, and I have been teaching English for over 10 years.

This experience includes 3 years at the University of Leeds where I taught English Literature modules to undergraduate BA students. In addition to that, I have been a private tutor for over 10 years with well over 100 regular students across a range of disciplines.

I have been a private tutor for 11 years now, in addition to 3 years of academic teaching (undergraduate seminars) at the University of Leeds during my PhD (Shakespeare Studies). Although English Literature, and its Renaissance period especially, is my natural forte, I have had over 30 long-term tutees across English Literature, Theatre Studies, History, Sociology, Psychology, Childhood Studies, and French and Spanish.

Additionally, I teach English as a second language. As such, I can offer support in rewriting and reworking academic assignments into standard formal English.

My approach depends heavily on the student, as I tailor classes to suit individual needs. Based on my 13 years of experience, I think that A1 level is a very important period in language learning. When learning any language, beginner level students should learn it in the correct order and important details should be explained well by practising previous ones. Students at more advanced levels, such as A2, B1 or above, also need to practice their skills at the previous level thoroughly to improve their language skills. I try to provide good teaching by paying attention to these important points in my lessons. I keep our lessons' notes in a word file.
