I specialise in tutoring applied mathematics and physics with special emphasis on how these subjects relate to electrical power system design and construction. Specific subjects include:
- Electrical power generation
- Medium Voltage distribution systems
- High Voltage transmission
- Power system protection
- Low Voltage distribution including Motor control centres
- Lighting
- Emergency power systems.

This class is suitable for students who are studying intermediate to senior level electrical engineering and wish to enhance their understanding of the application of electrical power system theory to circuit design and practical engineering problem solving.

The tutoring can be tailored to meet individual students' requirements.

Informations supplémentaires

A basic level of maths and physics (up to GCSE level) will be helpful but not essential.

Présentation

I have worked as an electrical engineer for the majority of my career and have a total of 40 years of experience gained in the UK, Holland, where I spent 22 years of my life and in Indonesia where I lived and worked for 5 years in the 1980's. After University I took a job in the steel industry which gave me a very strong background in design and engineering in the harshest and most demanding of environments and this proved to be invaluable in my later career designing and building power plants and transmission lines in the deserts of Saudi Arabia. My working experience as a teacher/lecturer is limited to 5 years at a technical college but I have always had the ability to share my enthusiasm for electrical engineering with those who have been under my charge. Whilst I have always used my knowledge of electrical engineering theory to great effect, I consider my ability to pass on my practical experience in the real world to be of equal value. I am articulate and organised with a good sense of humour which I have always found to be essential to the establishment of good communications.

Education

BSc in Electrical Engineering from Battersea College of Advanced Technology which in 1966 was an internal school of London University. BAT CAT moved to Guildford in 1967/8 and became the University of Surrey.

Expérience / Qualifications

1. 5 Years of teaching HNC Electrical Engineering at Longlands Technical College in Middlesbrough.
2. 10 years experience as an Electrical Engineer in the steel industry designing and commissioning process control systems for steel making and rolled steel plate processing plants.
3. 15 years as an Electrical Engineer and Project Manager undertaking power system studies and designing and commissioning power generation plants, MV distribution systems and HV transmission lines and substations in the Middle East and SE Asia.
4. 15 Years as a Business Manager in Engineering Recruitment.

I am a Masters graduate in Public Administration at the University of Leiden and have a Bachelors Degree in Economics from University of Leeds, UK. While taking a year out after my first degree at the University of Leeds in the UK, I decided to unleash my teaching potential thereby making an impact in the lives of selected year 11 students in my neighbourhood struggling with core subjects such as Maths, English among other subjects.

This was an enjoyable experience and I am glad I am able to put smiles on their faces and add to the knowledge of my students. I look forward to working with students within my territory regardless of their knowledge levels in the subjects I teach hoping that I would be able to make the same impact on them as well.
