Modern slavery, or trafficking in human beings, encompasses forced labour, debt bondage, forced criminality, forced marriage, sexual exploitation, servitude, organ harvesting and more - affecting an estimated 50 million worldwide. It thrives in industries such as agriculture, construction, mining, manufacturing, domestic work, sports, fashion, online calls, local gangs, and is often hidden within global supply chains. Vulnerable populations - migrants, women and girls, children, and those in extreme poverty - are disproportionately targeted. Perpetrators exploit coercion, deception, and control over identity documents, wages, or movement. This introductory course outlines the current trends, legislation and frameworks to fight trafficking and untangles the myths of trafficking to help you understand the phenomena. The tutor has 20+ years experience across policy, policing, justice and academic sectors. Honours in Public Policy and Management and Masters in Social Sciences and Business.
