After teaching many students of all ages from 5 different continents, my experience has taught me that language acquisition in 50% confidence and 50% skill. I am also a Medical student with many academic accolades, and my style of teaching: 1 ) Focuses on speaking above all else Babies learn languages by ear. They don't read and write until they already have a basic grasp on speaking and understanding, so why do we? When you learn a language by ear, you start with hearing and pronunciation. - You learn words by hearing their sounds. - You learn grammar by internalizing its patterns. - You learn communication by practicing conversation. 2) Trains your ear in your target language by listening to and mimicking music We start off with the elemental sounds in each language. Then we take these syllables and combine with rhythm and intonation to make sentences. - Rhythm is about the spacing and stress of syllables. - Intonation is about how the pitch of your voice goes up and down as you speak. Every language has its own set of rhythm and intonation patterns. Doing this means you learn to mimic native sentences fast through musical training, self-recording and drills. Once you can mimic, you can pick up new words and phrases just by hearing them. Learning should be Fun , Engaging and Complimentary to our natural pathways of acquiring language.!
