Do you want your guitar playing ability to reach levels you never even thought you could achieve? If this is the case, I would love to help you. My name's Dave and I've been a full-time professional musician for the past 15 years. I work predominantly as a performing and recording session musician and also as a private guitar tutor. I'm sure it will come as no surprise when I say that I absolutely love the guitar. My biggest goal in teaching guitar is to share with you my passion for this instrument and to help you gain as much enjoyment from it as I have for most of my life. My lessons have a highly tailored approach as I believe all students to be individuals and as such, they will always have different goals and ambitions, different ways of learning and varying rates of progression. I specialise in all popular contemporary musical styles on both electric and acoustic guitar as well as having a highly in-depth knowledge of musical theory, songwriting and composition. If you're interested in developing your skills in any of these areas, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Please note: I am happy to take on beginner guitarists however I believe that you will get the most out of what I can offer as a teacher if you are already towards the intermediate/advanced level of playing.

Trusted teacher: I aim to help students develop their voices healthy while nurturing their passion for music. Although not everyone has an excellent singing gift, I believe that everyone can be an excellent performer on their own stage. I will teach students following their aptitude and will not be too harsh on students. However, I will treat every student fairly and will not leave anyone behind. I will set goals for students based on their level and have certain requirements. I hope that students can be happy in the learning process, truly master knowledge, and share music's truth, goodness, and beauty! I am glad that many of my students have achieved good results in examinations, including ABRSM and Trinity College London Grades and Diploma exams, and winning prizes in competitions, including Holmfirth Musical Festival, Newcastle-U-Lyme Festival of Music, Leamington Spa Competitive Festival, Hounslow Festival of Music, Longwell Green & Kingswood Performing Arts Festival, Coulsdon and Purley Festival, Basingstoke Music Festival, and more. I consider myself to be a wide-ranging opera and concert soloist. Passionate about opera, I have sung more than 30 operatic roles and performed for opera companies in Asia and Europe in many major theatres and festivals, including Opera Hong Kong, Musica Viva, Winslow Hall Opera, OperaUpClose, Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival, Passaggio Oper, Opéra de Baugé and more. My operatic roles include Macbeth(Macbeth), Tonio(Pagliacci) and Escamillo(Carmen), among many others. On the concert platform, my past engagements include Haydn's Nelson Mas(Really Big Chorus/Hong Kong Police Choir), J.S. I received a postgraduate certificate from Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Hungary, and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where I was awarded the St Clare Barfield Memorial Bowl for Operatic Distinction. Prior to that, I gained my Bachelor of Music from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. I am also an experienced singing teacher for all ages. Besides teaching singing privately for more than 10 years, I was also a music tutor at Parkland Music Limited, Greenery Music & Arts Centre and Canon Music & Arts Centre in Hong Kong. In 2016, I have successfully organized "No Vocalists Allowed" opera workshop, and coached non-vocal major students to sing and perform an opera scenes concert at the New Lecture Theatre at Birmingham Conservatoire. I have also worked as an assistant vocal coach in K. Wah Opera Hong Kong summer school programme 2017, where I trained young performers to participate in Elf the Musical Jr production.

Through my teaching assistant position I improved my adaptability and communication skills by liaising with students from different backgrounds. I will be listening to the children read, supervising group activities. I can also teach Ks3 students in English, Maths, and Science Which i have done before I identified common weaknesses such as low self-confidence with certain students. As a result, I used positive reinforcement techniques such as offering verbal praise on their academic work to build their self-confidence. Another responsibility was to identify the students’ individual learning needs to help them improve their academic performance and skills. For instance, I helped a student to arrange a study plan which in turn allowed him to prioritise his time. Similarly, during university I learnt how to time manage, organise, be reliable through completing university assignments. This would be useful as a teaching assistant as one of the main roles is to support the teacher during activities, and to help children who need extra support to complete tasks. Moreover, I have strong presentational skills which I have enhanced through my team leader role within my security job. This role entailed managing a team of security guards at events and conducting presentations regarding everyone's roles and responsibilities. This allowed me to communicate effectively and improved my ability to work well in a team. In addition, I am able to work well independently, as well as being a team member. This is illustrated through my dissertation module and my group project. Through these assignments I had to prepare and create resources and present them, whilst also researching independently. I obtained a second class grade in both assignments which demonstrates my ability to research effectively and work well as part of a team and as an individual. In conclusion, I believe that I am suited for this role as I have the knowledge, skills, and experience to excel in this position. I would be able to support the teacher and liaise with students from different backgrounds and of different capabilities. In addition, I have strong presentational skills and communication skills which is significant for a teaching assistant as they may need to work one-to-one with students in small groups if they are struggling.
