I am an interactive teacher with 8 years of experience in schools and 16 years as a tutor. I have a strong background in physics and astronomy/astrophysics, and I have taught these subjects at the university level. My academic background includes studies in science, education, and science communication. My teaching approach is friendly, open, and engaging while maintaining clarity and directness. I believe in using a variety of materials, interactive simulations, and conceptual learning to make the learning experience enriching and enjoyable. As an educator, my online teaching abilities have significantly improved over time, and I am well-adapted to the online learning environment, especially given the previous situation with Covid.

Teaching Methodology:
Effective teaching goes beyond simply presenting information or repeating the same material. To truly help students grasp concepts, it is essential to approach subjects from various angles, allowing students time to make connections. Making learning interesting in a classroom setting requires practice and skill, and I have honed these abilities over many years. I am dedicated to continually enhancing my teaching skills as I both teach and learn myself!

Reason for pricing:
I am an expensive tutor, there is no doubt that my hourly rate is high, but there is a reason for this. I am very good at what I do. I am supportive, caring and I listen, reflect and share ideas / solutions / resources with students to work with and on both in our sessions and outside of it too. I make students feel comfortable to talk to me, make mistakes and engage with the content to the best of their abilities.

Présentation

I am keen to get back into tutoring one or two students on a regular (weekly) basis if possible. I have taught students of all kinds from those who were very strongly mathematically inclined to those who initially believed that they would not be able to do mathematics. Eventually through practice and collaboration, we (the student and I) developed an understanding that with a growth mindset, every student can be mathematically inclined through hard work and difficulties in understanding.

Education

Honours degree in Astrophysics from Monash University (4 years long).
A Masters degree in Science communication from Australian National University (2 years).
An iPGCE (educational degree) from University of Sheffield (1 year degree).
A Masters of Education, teaching and learning from University of Sheffield - which is the natural extension to my iPGCE - Finished 2021.

I am a international school teacher with 8 years experience and a tutor of 16 years experience. I have previously run my own tutoring business in Australia which had over 40 students and 10 tutors who I helped improve teaching practice and ran all aspects of the small business. I have taught physics and astronomy at university level and been in and around middle / high school education for many years, including previously working for the IB itself.
