About Me
I recently graduated with a Journalism degree, from the Universidad Central “Marta Abreu” de Las Villas (Central University “Marta Abreu” of Las Villas), Cuba, with excellent results and with honors, as I obtained a 4.90 GPA (from a 5.0 scale) that qualified me to hold the Título de Oro (Golden Title). Furthermore, I was recognized by the academic institution with the Premio al Mérito Científico-Técnico (Scientific-Technical Merit Award).During the course of my higher education, I received awards and recognitions in scientific forums, colloquiums, symposia and competitions. I published as a co-author a scientific article in Estudios sobre el mensaje periodístico, of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Complutense University of Madrid), Spain [indexed in Scopus: 23 (2), 2017, pages 709-726]. I also participated as a Peer Evaluator for the publication of an article at Revista de Estudios Sociales Contemporáneos, of the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (National University of Cuyo), Argentina (No. 20, June 2019).
Since September 2019, I work as a journalist at an importante Cuban radio station. I not only master my native language, Spanish, but I fluently speak English and French. I also have experience with various audiovisual and text editing programs, and especially with the Sony Vegas and Adobe packages, as well as the usual office supports.
Currently, I am studying a master’s degree in Political Science, at the Central University “Marta Abreu” of Las Villas. In fact, I am one of the authors of the book Enfoques críticos sobre la teoría y la práctica políticas en América Latina del siglo XXI (Critical Approaches to Political Theory and Practice in Latin America in the XXI Century), the second collective book of the master’s degree in Political Science at the Central University “Marta Abreu” of Las Villas, prepared primarily with the contributions of students and professors belonging to its third edition.
I am interested in scientific publications in the areas of Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as historical, philosophical, linguistic and communication research on the media. In fact, my degree thesis dealt with the discursive construction of Westernity in the news agencies Reuters, Sputnik and Notimex, and I aim to continue studying this and other gnoseological phenomena in several postgraduate courses.
I recently accomplished an online postgraduate course, entitled “Violencias contra las mujeres y radios por la no violencia” (“Violence against women and radio stations for non-violence”), sponsored by the association Radialistas Apasionadas y Apasionados (based in Quito, Ecuador), which allowed me to associate my knowledge about the feminist struggle with my work in the media. In April 2021 I will begin to study the online specialization on Epistemologías del Sur (Epistemologies of the South), in conjunction with the Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales (Latin American Council of Social Sciences, CLACSO), the Centro de Estudios Sociales (Centre for Social Studies, CES) and the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences, FLACSO Brazil).
It should be noted that I am a pre-admitted student in the Máster Universitario en Estudios Humanísticos y Sociales (Master’s Degree in Humanistic and Social Studies), at the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU (Abat Oliba CEU University), in Barcelona, and I am in the process of formalizing my enrollment to begin my studies around September of this year.

History records that the fundamental form of communication at the dawn of humanity was oral-written, but in the recent past, journalistic activity found an expansion in film, television, and radio. However, Teletext and the digital press open up a formidable field of possibilities for communications in the 21st century. So the historical panorama of journalism is broad enough to write much more than just a chronicle.
Do you want to be a journalist? Do you want to learn the ins and outs of this activity as old as it is necessary? In the Introduction to Journalism class, you will have the basic tools to train yourself as an excellent communicator. As a journalist and graduate student, I am interested in academic research in the areas of Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as historical, philosophical, linguistic and communicative research on the media, and my main goal now is to continue studying this and other gnoseological phenomena in various postgraduate lines.
Join my class! In the end, life is a beautiful chronicle, and you will have the tools to describe it.

Bilingualism and Code-Switching: by popular demandIn these neuro-divergent times, the binary division of "one language or two" in bilinguals is perhaps due some contestation, which students are capable of providing. I have always found bilingual production models (and the ubiquitous Powerpoint slide) that university teachers provide a hindrance because of their lack of explicitness and discussion - they are just not relatable as presented nor do they provide much information or examples for monolingual students.
Code-switching, a by-product of bilingualism, is now a term that is even found in minority-ethnic neighbourhood grafitti ("can white people code-switch" a found example). Please note that this is a linguistic term, used for switching between two languages, and not between local or social varieties of English.
My personal position is that there is no such thing as bilingualism: there is always a language that suffers attrition, and one language that prevails, mostly because of its prestigious standing over the other language. On the other hand, a child exposed to more than one language cannot be truly monolingual.
For this course (very popular at universities around Europe both at undergraduate and postgraduate level) we shall go through the terms used to discuss bilingualism, in detail, and then discuss, with the help of published books and articles, who can be considered bilingual (or are we all, one other language lying dormant?). Can bilingualism be defined by the speaker, instead of the "community"? Can it be imposed by the State? Does a bilingual brain function in the same manner as a monolingual brain? These are research questions that emerge as dissertation or thesis topics both at undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
