Political Belief Systems: An Introduction to Ideology

Everyone who engages with politics (which is to say, everyone) has an ideology. But not everyone is conscious of- let alone consistent in their ideology. In fact, most people’s conscious politics are nothing more than an inconsistent aesthetic. But anyone who has a world they long to see owes it to themselves to at least be self aware of their own ideology, and they should probably also familiarize themselves with others as well. I can help on both fronts.

This 10-session class serves as an introduction to the concept of political ideology. We will begin with a brief overview to various major academic theories of ideology, before moving on to a taxonomical survey of different ideological genuses and families, both “thick-centered” ideologies, that is, ideologies with a comprehensive core specific enough that they can stand on their own as it were, such as liberalism, conservatism, socialism, and fascism, and “thin centered” ideologies, which have much broader and hence much less specific cores, and hence must attach themselves to other thick centered host ideologies in order to fully manifest themselves, such as populism, nationalism, feminism, and ecologism.

This writing module is based on a pedagogy that has a sharp focus on writing as practice and craft, but in a practical and experiential work environment. Rigorous training in the processes of writing and editing will accompany one-on-one guidance from the Senior Editors and mentors including myself, and involve rewriting and studying real submissions across fiction, humour, commentary, poetry and more.

Si tienes una pulsión creativa, pero te cuesta organizar las ideas, te frena la página en blanco o necesitas consejos sobre cómo organizar tu material de apoyo o la estructura interna de la obra... Si buscas crear y dar consistencia a tu mundo o las claves para dar vida, solidez y realismo a tus personajes, en este curso te ofrezco la posibilidad de descubrirlas de la mano de un autor con más de 20 años en el oficio, especializado en el género. En este curso de iniciación exploramos lo necesario para que, partiendo de cero y sin experiencia, puedas comenzar a proyectar con solvencia tu trabajo hasta el nivel de primer borrador.

COMPOSICIÓN:
El curso (unas 6h. aprox) se compone de clases únicas de 1 hora de duración (Incluye actividades ) prorrogables si se necesita. Al final de cada módulo cursado se provee al alumno del PDF con el resumen de los bloques de materia vistos en ese módulo. Al final del curso proporcionamos su versión integra en video (divididos en bloques de unos 20m/bloque) para que puedas repasarlos cada vez que quieras.

Shall we learn about Brazilian history? I'm Brazilian, a graduate in History from PUC-Rio, where I'm currently pursuing my Master's degree in History. I also teach at the Marielle Franco Pre-University Center, where I've been teaching for two years. I have experience with online classes.
We will primarily study the formation of Brazil, its political and social issues, and how its people fought for their rights. We will explore colonization, the imperial period, and the different phases of the republic.
