[RARE] Play-by-Ear Piano for Classical/ Jazz Students and Church Pianists
From 31.37 € /h
Hi, my name is Sam. Do you know many students cant hear music as good as they could read music? No, you dont have to be born with perfect pitch to hear the notes in melodies and harmonies in the music. If you could tell red from orange, blue from indigo, as long as you are not "color-blind" to music (we call tone-deaf), then you can "hear" music too! With the right training of course!
Wish to play songs like your favorite Youtubers playing beautiful covers within hours of a new hit single release? Then this class is for you!

Listen & Play Piano
- Unlike the conventional "classical" method, this "modern approach" lesson, you'll learn to identify melodies, recognize chords, play different accompaniment styles, improvise (advanced level), and create your own personal style (advanced level).
Lessons include:
1. Active Aural Training
This is not the usual "classical exam format" aural exercises but practical aural techniques I've learned from my years of stage performance.
2. Chords
You will learn chord theory on harmonizing the melody and how to identify them just by listening to music.
3. Contemporary Accompaniment styles
This includes my bread-and-butter accompaniment styles I use in playing solo piano or keyboard in a band, and the knowledge I've accumulated over the past 18 years playing in church and band.
4. Music Theory on Pop Music
Music theory provides a systematic guide to your hearing so you'll understand what you heard and can even predict the harmony movement in most pop music.

About Me
Hi, my name is Sam. Nice to meet you! If you are looking to learn how to play songs spontaneously without the painful hours of practicing from any sheet music like how the many musicians online did it, this course is for you!

Why I teach play-by-ear?
I started learning piano when I was 5 years old, and have been on this musical journey for more than 30 years now. However, growing up, I couldn't find any teachers who can teach me how to play music with active listening.
It was many years later when I realized that almost every piano student were never taught how to play music properly with our ears, but instead only taught to read music with our eyes. Students who could play-by-ear are often self-taught, like me. It breaks my heart to see many students today who are merely note readers and can never play songs without heavily relying on music scores.
Luckily for me, on one fateful day, I just decided to stop feeling frustrated for not having access to music scores of my favorite music and I just started picking up the music bit by bit by ear. Till this day it remains my proudest and most important skill.
You dont have to envy the Youtubers who can play piano covers within mere hours after the song was released.
You dont have to envy when they dont seem to need hours of slow score reading and many more hours of practicing just to play that 1 song.
You dont have to envy people who can play piano spontaneously while you couldn't do it without a score properly practiced and readied for the performance.
Just like how we are able to identify shades of colour, or identify taste of food, identifying melodies of songs is very possible with the right training ;)
I believe many music students deserve to express themselves freely in music. Many talents, time, and money are wasted because they missed out on this one skill! Hence, I am passionate to spread the joy of play-by-ear with you today! If this is what you've been looking for, let's have a chat :D

In this lesson, you'll learn how to play chords beyond the basics, transition between songs, choosing the right key, applying the right accompaniment pattern, playing without music notations, etc.
