Utopia and Touch: An Introduction to Utopian and Dystopian Literature

Utopian Studies extends the notion from Thomas More's Utopia to the emergence of dystopian literature, highlighting the connection between fictionalized literary works and reality. The seminar is designed for students with advanced reading skills as the primary readings are mainly novels. Students are expected to carry out individual research. Further readings (journals, academic papers, etc) will be provided to support the discussion during the class.

Présentation
Elbert is a researcher and instructor specialising in English and American literature. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Foreign Languages and Literature from Tunghai University (Taiwan) and is pursuing a Master's degree in Literature & Modernity: Post-1900 at the University of Edinburgh (The UK).

As a researcher, Elbert centralises his research on dystopian literature, postwar writing, and modern and postmodern literature. Elbert also reaches out to topics on AI literature, cultural studies, gender studies, and literary theory and criticism.

Elbert leads literature-related seminars and teaches classes on academic writing. Additionally, he is involved in preparing students for English language proficiency exams, including IELTS, GEPT, and the English subject of the General Scholastic Ability Test (the college entrance exam in Taiwan).

Elbert Wang organized three literature seminars on Introduction to Literature, Utopian Studies, and YA Literature. The seminars expected students to explore the diverse genres of literature and bridge the connection with reality. Through insightful analysis and discussion of the chosen literature, students established a competitive capability in essay writing, critical thinking, and literature interpretation and analysis.
