Utopia and Touch: An Introduction to Utopian and Dystopian Literature

Utopian Studies extends the notion from Thomas More's Utopia to the emergence of dystopian literature, highlighting the connection between fictionalized literary works and reality. The seminar is designed for students with advanced reading skills as the primary readings are mainly novels. Students are expected to carry out individual research. Further readings (journals, academic papers, etc) will be provided to support the discussion during the class.

Students should prepare their primary reading materials. Both paper copy and e-book are accepted; paper copy is preferred. Secondary reading materials (journals, academic papers, or further readings) will be sent to students as digital copies.

Elbert is a researcher and instructor specialising in English and American literature. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Foreign Languages and Literature from Tunghai University (Taiwan) and is pursuing a Master's degree in Literature & Modernity: Post-1900 at the University of Edinburgh (The UK).

As a researcher, Elbert centralises his research on dystopian literature, postwar writing, and modern and postmodern literature. Elbert also reaches out to topics on AI literature, cultural studies, gender studies, and literary theory and criticism.

Elbert leads literature-related seminars and teaches classes on academic writing. Additionally, he is involved in preparing students for English language proficiency exams, including IELTS, GEPT, and the English subject of the General Scholastic Ability Test (the college entrance exam in Taiwan).

Elbert Wang organized three literature seminars on Introduction to Literature, Utopian Studies, and YA Literature. The seminars expected students to explore the diverse genres of literature and bridge the connection with reality. Through insightful analysis and discussion of the chosen literature, students established a competitive capability in essay writing, critical thinking, and literature interpretation and analysis.

Bonjour, I’m a native French student in English studies and I have been a tutor for four years now, to students from the age of 9 to 18 with various learning profiles (dyspraxia, autism, dyslexia).

As a future teacher, the most important thing for me is to learn how to adapt to the students needs and ways of learning. There is no one perfect way to learn a language, and my goal is to help you or your child to find out more about yourself/themself and how your/their brain works ! I had my French baccalaureat in Economics with honours. I am fluent in English and has the IELTS certificate at 8 level.

I have also worked as a primary school teacher and am an excellent teacher of primary school maths and English.

Hi there, my name is Ben and I am a recent 1st class graduate from the University of Glasgow in Scots Law! I am able to teach anything related to Law, or school subjects such as English, Geography, Economics and French as I received A* grades at these subjects in high school!

I have experience as a tutor for younger children as I co-ordinated a peer tutoring scheme, in which I taught the aforementioned subjects. My teaching style is organised, with worksheets and questions designed to make the student think deeply and use their knowledge, rather than merely giving them the answers. I am extremely friendly, patient and happy to work with students and adults of all ages, who I love to see succeed academically and build their general confidence levels.
