Chinese Language (Oral, Written, Speaking, Listening)Translate this text using Google Translate.

Mandarin may be more interesting than you thought it was. It's a language that's unlike any other. There are no plurals, no genders, and no tenses. This course introduces students to standard Mandarin Chinese language and is designed for students with no or minimal previous background in spoken or written Mandarin. Students in this course focus on learning essential vocabulary, practicing pronunciation, and understanding simple grammatical structures. This knowledge prepares students to effectively communicate in Mandarin on a limited range of topics related to everyday situations. Students practice listening and speaking in real-life situations, learn to read and write Chinese characters and examine how culture and language interact in China. In-class activities and course assignments aim to assist students as they develop the four-factor proficiency and confidence necessary to initiate simple conversations. We can also have extracurricular experiences, and we can meet in our spare time for face-to-face communication, which will provide ample opportunities for practical participation. Most likely, your first few Chinese classes will focus mostly on listening and speaking, and will gradually incorporate reading and writing as you go, since these are the most difficult of the four.

Chinese from Zero: Build Your Foundation, Explore the CultureTranslate this text using Google Translate.

▸Who I Work With? - Absolute beginners — you don't know a single word of Chinese, and that's perfectly fine. We'll start from the very beginning, with a clear focus on pronunciation and pinyin, so you can build a solid foundation from day one. - Self-learners who've tried and failed — maybe you've downloaded apps or watched videos, but you still can't pronounce words correctly or read a simple sentence. I'll help you fix the basics and rebuild your confidence. - Future travelers and culture lovers — you're planning to visit China someday, or you're simply fascinated by the culture. You want to learn the language properly, but you also want to know what makes Chinese culture tick. - Anyone who wants a structured start, without the boredom — I use textbooks to give us a clear learning path, but I bring the lessons to life with real stories, visuals, and cultural insights from my own experience. ────────────────── ▸What You Can Expect? - Pinyin first, and pinyin done right — the first part of this course focuses on pronunciation. We'll work through pinyin systematically: initials, finals, and tones. I'll use visual aids, tone drills, and plenty of speaking practice to make sure you can pronounce words accurately and read pinyin confidently. - A good textbook gives us structure — we'll use a proven textbook like HSK Standard Course 1 or Integrated Chinese as our foundation. This ensures you're learning in a logical order, with clear grammar explanations and vocabulary building. - Beyond the textbook — once we've got the basics down, I'll bring in materials from my own work: documentary clips, travel photos, real Chinese signs and menus. You'll see how the words and grammar you've learned show up in real life. This is where the culture comes in, not as a separate lesson, but woven into everything we do. - Speak and read from day one — every lesson includes speaking practice. You'll learn to introduce yourself, order food, ask for directions. Practical, useful Chinese that you can actually use. ────────────────── ▸Teaching Methods & Materials - Core textbook: HSK Standard Course 1 or a similar structured textbook for systematic progress - Pinyin tools: visual charts, tone pair drills, audio recordings for pronunciation practice - My own materials: documentary footage, authentic photos, and real-world examples to bridge the gap between the textbook and real life - Custom worksheets: designed specifically for your weak points and interests

I have never come late to all of my classes for more than 10 years. For children's classes, I prepare songs, videos, cartoons, teaching and explaining at the same time, They learn really fast and never feel bored when they are excited with a fun teacher and materials. I believe that interest is the best teacher. So I try my best to prepare before classes and send materials after classes to students.

Our students from Bern evaluate their Chinese teacher.

To ensure the quality of our Chinese teachers, we ask our students from Bern to review them.

Only reviews of students are published and they are guaranteed by Apprentus. Rated 4.8 out of 5 based on 105 reviews.

The current ratings and reviews speak for themselves. Most are 5-star reviews, with a few 4-star reviews and none at a lower rating. She is an amazing teacher with more than a decade of experience. Who truly knows how to tailor a programme to each individual student. In 3 weeks, I've grown from knowing close to no grammar to being able to form proper sentences for everyday use. One aspect I value a lot about her way of teaching is that we apply the grammar not only to every-day situations but also to topics that tailor to my personal life circumstances. I have been convinced that, with the help of Marina, I will be able to grow my Mandarin skills exponentially over the next few months.

It was a pleasure studying classical piano with Xiang and i recommend him as a teacher for piano. Xiang gave me guidance on hand relaxation, horizontal movements, rhytm and other ways of practicing, scales tips, pedalling, fingering and general tips. over few months of (bi)weekly lessons, he gave me guidance on few Czerny pieces and Chopin etude 12 op 10. Xiang can “sight read” some Chopin etudes at the speed that takes me several week to practice, this was amazing and inspiring to observe!:)

Had my first lesson with Cuihong and really enjoyed it. She helped me with basic pronunciation (so good help for a complete beginner like me) and taught me some interesting tidbits. She was also very quick and reliable to answer my mails through Apprentus, and is a friendly person. Looking forward to continuing lessons with her!
