Présentation

I am a university music student who is eager to share knowledge with others. I believe that music is an art that should be accessible to everyone, and a first start to understanding music is to understand the basis of theory. What normally is seen as something unaccessible and scary, I believe that can be seen with simplicity and enjoyment. I will be there to guide you from the very beginning of the learning process of music.
I am also native from Portugal and equally committed to share my culture. that is why I'm also available for teaching Portuguese to people who are curious about the Portuguese language and culture!

Education

I finished in 2023 my bachelor in Choir Conducting at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I started my musical eduction in Portugal, learning the piano and later learning composition in high-school.

I have experience with teaching and rehearsing in groups of children and also adults. I also have experience in private lessons of music theory, solfége and ear training.

General Music Theory, Solfége and Ear Training lessons

In these music lessons you will work on general aspects of music theory, from the very basic topics to more specific and advanced subjects. You will also learn to read and sing rhythm and melodies, and for more advanced students you will work on developing further those skills. You will also learn to listen to melodies and write them on paper. Over all, if you are someone who is aspiring to have more musical knowledge in a fun and productive way, these are the perfect lessons for you!

This class is for everyone who wants to learn portuguese.
My goal is to provide the best tutoring experience and to teach you what you want to learn or need to know. In order to do that I will personnaly tailor the class to the needs of the student, be it on a beginner, intermediate or advanced level and we can cover a variety of aspects depending on your goals (from technical vocabulary to portuguese literary analysis).
I assign homework every other week and I will provide periodic progress and evaluation reports.

Are you moving to Portugal and want your kid to learn a bit before moving there?
Are you Portuguese native speakers who are living abroad and want to understand how your child is developing?
Is one of the parents of your child a Portuguese native speaker?
Do you want a babysitter who can teach your child a language in the meantime?
Is your child transitioning from an international school to one with a Portuguese curriculum?

These are only some of the few encounters I’ve had in the past with kids who learned Portuguese language in a fun and engaging way. If your kid talks PT/EN/FR/NL/SP I can speak with them.

My strongest suit as a teacher is patience and I can connect to children quite easily (maybe because my mum is a kindergarten teacher). I know how hard it is to hold a kid’s attention for long stretches of time. Thus I try to turn the classroom into a playground and make it as interactive as possible. The focus will be to learn vocabulary as opposed to writing complex sentences, depending on your child’s proficiency of the language.

My method is super flexible and I adjust it to every student. I usually share my screen and make use of audiovisual material such as books, songs, videos and games. The latter seems to have the most success so far as we cheerfully shout Portuguese vocabulary such as animals, numbers, letters, colors etc.

Both Brazilian and European Portuguese. We will start with the basic grammar of the Portuguese language. Depending on the pace and experience of the student, conversation will gradually take place in Portuguese. You will receive useful and practical tips to make learning the language even more fun.

I am Maicon, a Brazilian-French guy living in Amsterdam. I've been teaching Portuguese and French as foreign languages for about 10 years and have experience teaching beginners and advanced students of all ages.
