Despite advances in AI and other technologies, the core practice of excelling in college remains reading comprehension and essay writing. While these tools can act as a band-aid, they do not help students with foundational learning skills overall. With five years of experience in teaching college composition, I am aware of the gaps between high school and college literacy with which many students enter. My course will focus on filling such gaps to improve prospective and current students' overall reading and writing skills to aid in textbook comprehension and essay writing for any class they may attend. In attending my course, you will practice: - 1:1 help with essay edits and writing - Reading and critical engagement with excerpts from typical college material - Short writing drills to improve overall writing towards a college level - Line editing and peer review

I am eager to help young people feel confident when writing sociology essays. I will place an emphasis on deconstructing the questions students are given by encouraging them to reword the question to offer a different perspective on it. In addition, the main aim of a sociology essay is to convince the reader more and more of the argument you have claimed in the introduction. I want to help students do this by helping them follow the PEAL structure, i.e. Point, Evidence, Analysis, Link back to question. I have found this a very effective and coherent way of structuring an essay. I have studied Sociology for 7 years now, at AS/A Level, Undergraduate Level and now at MSc level at LSE. I was awarded First-Class Honours in my undergraduate as well as 'Best Dissertation of the year' by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
