Ciao! I'm Elisa, and I am a native Italian girl. I believe that, with the right method, everyone can learn a new language, even though you know nothing about it. Wether you have some knowledge of Italian that you want to improve, or you need to start from zero, I can help you! Once we make sure you are fine and confident with the basics of the language, we can adjust the lessons to your own needs: we can focus on conversation and everyday use words and sentences, so that at the end you will eventually be able to speak and understand Italian in real life situations, or we can focus more on the grammar if you need to improve that aspect of the language, or just on whatever you need. What I try to do in my lessons is to recreate the process that we go through when we learn our first language as kids. It's proven that when learning a language, we tend to remember new words better if we hear them in different situations and contests, and that's what I'll base my lessons on. You will always need a blank piece of paper and a pencil for class. Some people say that you need fancy materials to make art but that is far from the truth. Using what you have at home is perfect! We will be taking notes each class on techniques and we will also be doing sketches every class. On the first day of class we will start by setting goals for something we want to learn more about in art. I will work with you to gradually get to that place you want. Art is something that you learn just like everything else, putting in the work is part of learning and is needed in the subject of art as well!

In this course, you will learn a range of linguistic methods and learn the terms used for describing a specific aspect of language or phenomenon (lexis, morphemes, and 'telegraphic stage' to give a few examples). The course requires you to explore your own data using quantitative and qualitative analysis (eg: how frequently are slang phrases used? Are there new auxiliaries being created?). No historical linguistics or literature is involved, but language change or specific traits will be sampled via your own data collection (if this is what is demanded in your course). As many students need to present a "year abroad" dissertation at University level (3rd year in the UK of a Modern Languages or Linguistics Undergraduate course) I can help you to research and structure your year abroad work, both in English (Linguistics) and Romance languages (French, Italian, Spanish). At beginner and lower intermediate levels, I prefer using a text book/ student book in the first part of the class.
