For over 30 years I have been passionately teaching individual and group lessons to people of all levels. I am Gianni, a born and raised Florentine who has been living in Delft for quite some time. Florence, the birthplace of the Italian language, is also the city of Dante Alighieri, the founder of modern Italian. No, we are not related 😉, but just as Haarlem in the Netherlands is known for its ABN pronunciation, Florentine Italian is considered the standard language. I proudly convey this authentic Italian in my lessons. Professional experience I am currently a teacher of Italian at the Volksuniversiteit Delft, after having previously taught for four years at the Volksuniversiteit Rotterdam. In addition to my work as a teacher, I am also a professional singer of traditional Italian folk songs. I like to integrate this passion into my lessons, because music is a powerful tool for learning a language. Well-known lyrics and melodies not only make the learning process more fun, but also more effective. I often accompany my singing with guitar, which creates an authentic Italian atmosphere. Teaching method For beginners, I use an accessible textbook that explains the basics of Italian step by step. During the lessons, I immediately correct mistakes in sentences or pronunciation, so that you gain more confidence in speaking. My approach is practical and interactive: every mistake is an opportunity to learn something new, whether it is a word, a grammatical rule, an anecdote or a cultural context. In addition, we pay attention to Tuscan cuisine and culture, so that you not only learn the language, but also experience the rich Italian lifestyle. For advanced I work with more advanced texts, current topics and conversations, so that you continue to develop your language skills. I originally started as a volunteer in 2016 and since then I have helped countless students with their school work; most commonly in Maths but also other subjects like Physics, English, and Chemistry. Later my position developed into employment where I would run after school clubs to help the children build confidence and talk about their emotions, make fun programs for summer camps, and of course, I continued with tutoring many children GIRLS DO CODE Girls Do Code is an organization in Slovenia that aims to get more women into STEM, they believe that this interest has to start in childhood and therefore they offer lessons in Computer Science to over 300 girls. This cause was something that I thought was incredibly important and so I became a volunteer for their organization. This entailed teaching a group of 10 girls the basics of Computer Science in a fun and creative way and was a very rewarding experience. Through my training for Girls Do Code, I was certified by Microsoft as an Innovative Educator. I currently work as a Maths teaching assistant at an international school in the Netherlands where I work with children struggling with maths in small groups. Hello, Jakob has really been such a great teacher, I have never seen someone so enthusiatic about music...He is the type of person who can motivate you to learn and have fun with the instrument. I am total beginner in terms of music and violin, but yet the progress im making is amazing. The lessons are so much fun and i really enjoy learning from him. He is never afraid to go extra mile for his students, which is very rare these days. I look foreward to my classes every week. Overall, i have an amazing time learning violin, all thanks to him.
