You want to:
- Feel comfortable accompanying and improvising in the different styles you enjoy.
- Build a repertoire of folk, blues pop, classical, bossa or jazz standards.
- Use music theory to develop your ear and creativity so you can play and communicate more easily with your musician friends.
- Develop your technique and optimal posture with the help of the F.M. Alexander Technique.

In practice:
Lessons take place in my home studio in Rixensart. I can also give lessons online, but I prefer face-to-face lessons so that I can easily guide the student and clearly hear (and see) all the nuances of what is being played. I mainly use the interactive music notation platform soundslice.com to share my scores. The scores, tablature and guitar methods are synchronised with the original tracks or learning videos, either tailor-made or from great masters and available on YouTube. It is possible to loop sections, slow down passages as desired, gradually speed up, keep a practice calendar to see when you have worked and motivate yourself to move forward. It really is a learning tool that I wish I had had when I was younger. ;-)

I also encourage everyone to get a small keyboard so they can practice harmony in a practical way on the piano, which allows them to break out of their guitar habits and become better musicians with a multidisciplinary understanding of music.
Extra information
Amplifiers are available on site and I have recording equipment. I can lend you a guitar for the duration of the lesson.

About Me
My name is Martin, I'm 41 years old, and I've always shared my passion for music and the guitar. I love exploring and sharing a variety of worlds: jazz, bossa nova, soul, blues, pop, reggae, and rock. Guitar, bass, sound, and the world of home studios particularly inspire me, and I'm always looking to connect technique with musical expression.

What motivates me in teaching is seeing each student develop their ear, their sense of rhythm, and their enjoyment of playing. I enjoy working on harmony, improvisation, and creativity, without forgetting the importance of humor and lightness in learning.

As the father of two boys, aged 8 and 10, I know how to adapt to different profiles and offer personalized support. I also enjoy the shared moments of jam sessions, where music becomes a common language.

I'm not an expert in metal or highly distorted styles, but I can guide you through many other repertoires. My goal is to help you progress while having fun, whether you're a beginner or more advanced.
Education
First trained in classical guitar at the Musicole in Uccle (Cathy Rennuy and Stéphane Wertz), I continued music theory at the Boitsfort academy.

As a teenager, I learned other styles, always with Stéphane Wertz and then Paul Elias.

After my secondary studies, I entered the Jazz Studio in Antwerp where I stayed for two and a half years. This was followed by a year and a half of studies at the jazz conservatory in Ghent.
Experience / Qualifications
Since 2014, I have also been a certified Alexander Technique teacher. This 3-year, 15-hour-per-week practical training program is a valuable aid in learning how to release unnecessary tension and indirectly achieve better posture and more fluid movements, first in your daily life and then in your guitar playing.

I can offer you complementary lessons alongside the guitar lessons or divide the guitar lesson to introduce 15 to 20 minutes of Alexander Technique.

I help my students overcome chronic pain, reduce stress, and improve their posture and overall well-being using the Alexander Technique.

During an Alexander class, we'll focus on your overall coordination in movements like sitting and getting up from a chair, walking, and carrying objects. You'll also be offered work lying down on a table. This allows you to avoid having to manage your balance and facilitates the process of letting go.

The Alexander Technique can help you:
- The fluidity of your movements
- Improving your posture
- Reduction of back pain
- Relief from joint pain
- Management of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs)
- Reduction of the stress response
- Prevention and recovery from burnout

The Alexander Technique was developed in the early 20th century by Frederick Matthias Alexander, an Australian actor who suffered from repeated hoarseness. Doctors could not find a clear medical diagnosis, so he decided to find out for himself where his problems stemmed from. He realized he had bad habits in his recitation by carefully observing himself in mirrors. After years of observation, he developed a technique to regain control over his coordination habits. He was able to change what he called his self-use. This discovery shed light on the influence of self-use on the proper functioning of the body and even on our structure.
