I propose saxophone lessons for all ages, all levels, and in all styles. I have been running private lessons for 25 years, as well as giving workshops and master classes in colleges and universities. During a lesson I encourage the student to work on: posture, breathing and the position of the mouth (embouchure), helping the projection of sound; the development of the tone; i teach the student how to phrase and play a beautiful melody; techniques of improvisation; understanding harmony; having confidence in his/her playing skills; techniques of listening and interacting with the rhythm section; learning new songs and experiencing different styles of music; Introductions to key saxophonists. A certified teacher for over 30 years, I teach in conservatories as well as workshops and masterclasses at European universities and conservatories. My teaching approach emphasizes the joy of playing, well-being, posture, breathing, embouchure, sound quality, and repertoire discovery, while relying on a solid technical foundation. I guide my students in mastering sound, fundamental techniques, digital dexterity, and exploring different musical styles. They also have the opportunity to practice the main types of saxophones. I move around easily and speak French and English. Whether you are a beginner or want to go further and progress in saxophone, improvisation, knowledge of musical systems whatever the styles (Classical, Jazz, Current Music, etc...), I orient my teaching in such a way as to achieve your objectives, while adapting my working method to your needs and your level so that you can progress quickly and with pleasure. I hold a Bachelor's degree (Bac+3) in classical saxophone from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, and a chamber music prize from the Toulouse Conservatory. I have taught in music schools and in the private sector (in France and Belgium). I am a patient and attentive teacher. Attentive to difficulties, I adapt my teaching according to them to support you as best as possible on the path to success.

I graduated from the CNSMDP (National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Paris) in Saxophone Jazz (Master). I teach saxophone for all types of levels and styles. I like to approach learning this instrument through oral transmission rather than through methods or scores. This is how I learned music and jazz in particular. (I also oriented my dissertation around solo recording and learning through imitation.) However, I read music very well and can work with scores if the student prefers to work that way, or if the style of music requires sheet music.

I'll teach you the basics of playing the saxophone by exploring it as you play. I'll teach you how to read music and learn the corresponding fingerings. We'll also play songs, which can later be adapted to your own requests. We'll do this based on good methods that we'll go through together.

Chris is a New York City-based multi-instrumentalist. A passionate composer and improviser, he has performed as a leader and sideman throughout New York, Boston, Colorado and abroad over the past 15 years. Chris attended the Manhattan School of Music (MM ‘25) and the New England Conservatory of Music (BM ‘23). He has taught privately and within public schools over the past eight years, and loves to help students cultivate their passion for music and instrumental performance. Students can choose to focus entirely on their instrument (saxophone, clarinet, and flute), or can specifically study improvisation, jazz composition, music theory, and ear training. While primarily a jazz musician, Chris is trained in a wide variety of musics including classical, which he diligently studied on the clarinet; popular music and R&B; and world musics, including Brazilian (Choro/Bossa/Samba), Latin-American (Bomba/Timba/Rumba), and West-African styles (Agbekor/Gahu). Some of Chris's many accomplishments include being recognized as a YoungArts Jazz Performance winner for four years in a row; performing abroad in Europe with the inaugural NYO Jazz Band, receiving a Community Performances and Partnerships Ensemble Fellowship at New England Conservatory, and also receiving the George Whitefield Chadwick Medal of musical and academic performance. Chris emphasizes a teaching approach that prioritizes connecting with the student and engaging them in what they’re specifically interested in, while also covering the fundamentals essential to developing ones skills on their instrument or in their field of study. He offers lessons in person, primarily at students's personal residences, and also online via Zoom, Google Meet, or FaceTime (although in person is highly recommended).

I am an experienced music instructor who studied at the music university in Türkiye and has been actively working with large music teams in hotels, bars and concerts for 17 years. If you want to learn bass guitar, classical guitar, saxophone and music theory, I will be happy to teach you, I am a music lover.

Learn to play to decipher scores and improvise by ear or by reading and analyzing chord charts. Previously, he also completed a MASTER OF INTERPRETATION at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (2015-2017) in the class of Alain Crepin and Simon Diricq. He studied at the "Musikene" (Higher Conservatory of Music of the Basque Country) with Eric Devallon, Tomás Jérez, Antonio Felipe Belijar and Miguel Ángel Lorente. Passionate about multidisciplinary artistic creation, he thinks of the mixing of all the arts in the same show as an aesthetic goal. This type of research could be observed in his project for his final master's recital in Brussels where he created a project based on Maslow's theory of the hierarchy of human needs where he mixed live, recorded music, dance, light shows and effects under the name: “according to Maslow... ” In terms of his career as a concert artist, he has played in different ensembles (solo performances, duo, trio, quartet, orchestra...) and different countries such as Japan (Artisanal Musical Fair "Suono Italia" 2010), Belgium (Festival Musiq3 2016), Artonov Festival at BOZAR in 2016...), France (Dax chamber music festival 2011) or Spain (Music Festival “Quincena Musical” 2015, Aste Nagusia 2015, Heineken Jazzaldia 2014, Festival Kutxa 2015, Intercentros Melómano 2010).

Any level welcome in this class. Learning songs is the beginning of the adventure, learning to play music with freedom is the lifelong journey. Improvisation does not mean we forget about technique! So, learn some saxophone, some jazz skills, and music theory in a tried-and-tested way developed over my many years of teaching. I am as passionate about improvisation as the saxophone itself, the two go together beautifully. I am Julia, a professional saxophonist originally from Montreal, Canada. I live in the Netherlands for 4 years and have a Master's degree in Music. I compose, engineer and perform music. I also love to teach, I have experiences with ages 9 to 90. The main idea of my teaching philosophy is to get the sound in your head out into the air. "Guided Fearless Music-Making" is my motto!

Are you a beginner?? No worries: no experience is required! 😁 I can teach you the basics to produce sounds with your saxophone: position of the embouchure (teeth, tongue, lips and vocal cords' position, an element often forgotten), fingerings, use of diafragma,... After the first two lessons spent on the mouthpiece and neck for the sound production, we will immediately start to play some super easy duos together to practice your capacity of listening, pay attention to the other, ear training as well. I normally use the book of Peter Wastall (titled Learn as you play) as support, but it is not mandatory. There are plenty of good books btw! Are you an intermediate / advanced student?? I am sure you can still improve in all the basics, but on a different level. I'll teach you the importance of the "voicing" (technique named by the american saxophonist and pedagogue Donald Sinta) to improve your sound production and projection as well as the capacity of correcting and improving the intonation. You can learn all about phrasing and music interpretation, from tonal music until contemporary atonal compositions. And still, you can improve your playing together, practicing in duo on different aspects like tuning, balance, interpretation, performance etc. Book a lesson and try!
