My name is Benkoe Koenyves (24), originally from Hungary, been living & working in Australia for a cruise ship company called P&O Australia as a music coordinator & band leader since 2015.

Ive been pIaying drums for 15 years by now. After 3-4 years of playing it on an amateur level, decided to study it.
In 2011 got accepted as the youngest student (17) to the Conservatory of Jazz in Graz (Austria) and recieved a Jazz Bachelor degree on Jazz drums in 2015. In the meanwhile I've been playing at various jazz festivals in Europe with a bigband called JM World Jazz Orchestra, like North Sea Jazz Fest Rotterdam & Brosella Jazz Festival Bruxelles.

In 2014 recieved a Downbeat Student Award as "Outstanding Undergraduate Student".

Also had the pleasure to play with many jazz legends like: Benny Golson, Billy Hart, Peter Bernstein, Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, Randy Brecker, Jim Rotondi, and many more.

I also started DJ-ing in the last 3-4 years and getting more into electronic music and discovering the roots of it.
About a year ago I started producing electronic music on my own, and now decided to take it more serious and move to Amsterdam, and study Audio Engineering & Electronic Music Produciton at the SAE Institute.

The most important matter that I could write here about is my passion to teach. I've been teaching already for more than 10 years, from kids to adults. I'm a classical pianist, but I am opened to other musical styles. What I want you to get from your lessons with me, is not only a huge knowledge of theorical stuff or a great technique, I would like to show you my musical world, the imagination and inner exploration that is required to understand and to love music in a whole new level. I’m a professional pianist with 12+ years of teaching experience and over 7 years of international performing (Switzerland, Austria, Iceland, Spain, and worldwide on luxury cruise ships).

About the Lesson

I am a patient and dedicated piano teacher, working with students of all ages and levels. Every lesson is tailored to your goals, learning style, and musical interests.

I teach a wide range of styles, from classical to modern music (jazz, blues, pop, etc.).

I can teach you reading sheet music or playing by ear, depending on your preference and goals. I can also help you improvise and create your own music in the styles you enjoy.

I also have strong experience working with students with ADHD and dyslexia, adapting lessons to make learning clear, structured, and engaging.

I focus on healthy technique, musicality, and effective practice habits to build confidence and avoid tension or injury. I also help students develop a technique that prevents common issues such as tendonitis, which is very important for long-term playing. You’ll also receive support outside lessons, including answers, feedback, and video explanations when needed.

I prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity exams (Grades 1–8 and Diplomas), but I also teach students who simply want to enjoy playing. My students range from age 3 to 75+, and all make meaningful progress.

Online lessons are just as effective as in-person ones. I use a professional multi-camera setup and high-quality audio so you can clearly see technique and movement. Most of my lessons (95%+) are taught online.

Curriculum

There is no single method that fits everyone, so I adapt all materials to you.

For beginners, I often use Alfred’s Basic Piano Library. For classical and jazz development, I work with ABRSM and Trinity syllabi. I’m always happy to use other methods if you prefer.

Alongside structured materials, I include music you enjoy and focus on essential skills that apply across all styles—from classical to modern music.

I teach online via Zoom, using software which allows you to see the exact keys I'm playing on my keyboard.

My teaching method is to focus on whatever type of music the student loves most, and to build from there. I believe that many people give up their dream of playing an instrument simply because they aren't inspired enough, so my goal is to instill a love for music, whatever that means personally for each individual student.

Everyone learns differently and has their own pace and rhythm. I have some students who like to have a regular weekly or biweekly lesson, and others who just get in touch once in a while when they have digested the previous lesson and feel ready to build on it. Whatever the case, I am very flexible and we can figure out what works best for you.

A bit about me:

Originally honing my skills on the British jazz scene and holding residencies in restaurants and bars around the country, I then went on to tour the world playing on cruise ships, hotels and festivals. I returned to London to complete my master's in jazz piano at the Guildhall School of Music, and during this time performed regularly at Ronnie Scotts, The Vortex and many other venues across the UK. I then spent two years in South America learning about salsa and Cuban music. I now mainly work as a transcriber, writing sheet music for all instruments including full Big Band scores. I have also worked extensively in musical theatre, most recently as musical director for 'Jersey Boys', and on the first US national tour of 'Summer: the Donna Summer Musical'. The video shown below is from my stint playing and directing 'After Midnight', a show set to the music of the Duke Ellington Big Band.

Having been introduced to Metal music and after a great experience in a local band, I continued my studies at the Music Academy International in Nancy and then at the American School of Modern Music in Paris (now a drum teacher there), from which I obtained two degrees.
I worked extensively on contemporary music and jazz. During this time, I also benefited from the teaching of some of the greatest French musicians and educators (Franck Agulhon, Raphael Pannier, Dominique Di Piazza, etc.).
Alongside my studies, I joined numerous training programs which allowed me to start doing many concerts, tours, studio sessions and music video shoots.
