This class will provide students with the necessary analytical tools and principal knowledge they need to succeed in their English, History, or Social Studies classes, on both primary and secondary levels. Coming from a background of sociological research, I have both qualitative and quantitative methodological study methods that inform my tutoring strategies and increase student's general comprehension of key concepts. Beginning with teaching core principles from assigned textbooks and syllabi (of which I independently review and use to create individual and tailored lesson plans), I also provide students with critical thinking skills, grammar lessons, and essay writing tips to ensure that they reach their academic and intellectual potential. I am presently a master's student at LSE and have six years of tutoring and teaching experience in related disciplines, as well as experience working with students with varied learning and cognitive demands.

I am originally from New York City, though have relocated to London to pursue my MSc in Political Science (Conflict Studies and Comparative Politics) at LSE. I am proficient in quantitative and qualitative research methods and have been published to the American Sociological Association, with a desire to continue to pursue academia! I have a passion for teaching and years of experience as a tutor, particularly in the social science fields with past courses I've taught being ELA, Global History, SAT Preparatory Training, and Essay Writing Intensives.

I have a CELTA certificate (Certificate in Teaching English to Adults) and an MA in English Literature completed at Kingston University London. I also have an MA in Multilingual Communications from the ‘Université Libre de Bruxelles’ in Brussels and a BA in Modern Languages (English/Spanish).

I have been working as a teaching assistant and as a teacher of English and French as foreign languages since 2010 in various schools in both Luxembourg and London. Whatever your background or profession, deciding to learn a foreign language is a great way to add another dimension to your life and make your mind work in a new way. You become a (slightly) different person, since along with a new language, one learns to look at the world in a slightly different way. This is why my approach to teaching English is not only aimed at laying or strengthening the foundational knowledge - grammar, speaking, writing and listening skills, but also at introducing students to the culture of the English-speaking population. We will find out what English speakers find funny, what drives them to tears, what makes them feel proud and what they get embarrassed about.

Open to students of all levels, my course usually is taught online, using a variety of visual aids and a wide range of material, from textbooks to YouTube videos. In teaching advanced learners, I often refer to pieces of literature such as novels and poems, since they easily spark discussions, which in turn improves the students' grasp and feel of the language. In doing so, I take students beyond ordinary textbooks and grammar books, since they are no more than guides to learning, not absolute authorities, and because to me language is a living, constantly evolving matter, which you must submerge yourself into in order to understand.

In addition to my unorthodox approach, what sets me apart is a collection of unique, language-related experiences, which translate into a good ability to understand nuances of the English language. A native Russian speaker, I have lived in the UK for over 5 years, went to a Scottish boarding school and have even completed a university degree in English. Social studies as well as science of education persist both of many theories and philosophy. Sometimes it is hard to understand these theories or to memorise them for an upcoming test. I want to make the theories more practical to the student by using examples to explain them. I’d test them regularly by asking for the most relevant facts.

Moreover math is also quite difficult for some students to understand. I already gave math tutor classes for students and it’s very helpful to just make as many exercises and examples as possible and in doing so explaining problems and raising questions.

Test preparation is a special field of education which isn’t really taught in school, although it’s very important for the students to know. It is all about motivation and finding the best method how to learn. Besides, time management and organisation as well as still having time for leisure activities is crucial. I figure this out together with the students preferences and personalities to get the most out of the test prep time.
