Voice lessons, vocal technique! Styles include musical theater, opera, classical, pop, jazz, country and more.
Many teachers conduct voice lessons using a series of preconstructed warmups and vocalises. This is rigid and ineffective, as each singer's vocal journey is unique. Voice Lesson By Design embraces the individual strengths of the singer, catering to their specific pedagogical needs. Every lesson is different. Creativity, playfulness, curiosity, humor, exploration, sensitivity and respect are held in a safe container during lessons, acting as fundamental collaborative elements of The Song-Heart Connection and Vocal Studio.

Originally from South Florida, my career began in New England with a studio teaching singers of all ages. Now with over ten years private and collegiate experience (University of the Arts, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Rider University, University of New Mexico), I am proud to be a full-time voice instructor at Savannah College of Art and Design.

I have discovered the fundamental connection between vocal expression and somatic healing. Using professional counseling techniques and Voice Lesson By Design, I offer a unique approach to singing that caters solely to the individuality of each singer.

Prior to The Song-Heart Connection, my "mini-lives" detailed work as an opera singer, Zumba instructor, nanny, server, barista and more. I absolutely love learning and enjoy hip-hop dance, photography, yoga, Zazen, hiking, fishing, travel, Italy and the Italian language, psychology and the shared human experience.

In our Oud class, I will guide you through everything from basic to advanced techniques. We will cover playing for all levels, correct left-hand use, synchronizing with the right hand, handling the pick, tuning the Oud, and effectively using a tuner and metronome. In the remaining time, we will dive into reading musical notes, starting with basic Solfege and progressing to advanced and oriental Solfege, including dictation exercises. This comprehensive approach ensures a well-rounded musical journey

My recommendation for learning the Oud is to begin by studying musical notes and notation before delving into songs. While some students prefer to jump straight into playing songs, understanding the fundamentals of music notation accelerates progress in the long run. Dedication and hard work can yield significant progress within a year, enabling you to play simple tunes.

1- Organic causes: physiological voice disorders that result from alterations in respiratory, laryngeal, or vocal tract mechanisms.

A) Structural: organic voice disorders that result from physical changes in the vocal mechanism, such as:
- Polyps.
- Vocal Nodules.

- Cysts on the vocal cords, growths that aren't cancer.

B) Neurogenic causes: organic voice disorders that result from problems with the central or peripheral nervous system innervation to the larynx that affect functioning of the vocal mechanism, such as:
- Vocal tremor.
- Spasmodic dysphonia.
- Vocal fold paralysis.
- Vocal cord paralysis or weakness.

2- Functional causes: voice disorders that result from inefficient use of the vocal mechanism when the physical structure is normal, such as:
- Vocal fatigue.
- Muscle tension Dysphonia or Aphonia.

Each session is personalized and lasts between 45 and 60 minutes, depending on the student’s goals and needs.
