In my lessons, the qanun is the instrument, but your own story is the guide. I don’t see music as something that exists outside of ourselves; it is sound that resonates from your own body and your own life experience. Whether we are working on the rich traditions of Arabic and Turkish music or your own modern influences, the foundation is always the same: we create a safe spot. A place where the expectations of others or yourself simply fall away, so your walls come down and you truly dare to play.
A lesson lasts 60 minutes. We warm up our bodies and our hands, we learn a new piece, and we play together. The music we choose is a mix of my own repertoire and the pieces you feel a personal click with. It is about mastering the technique, not as an obligation, but as a language. Because only once you speak the language can you truly tell what is on your heart.
