Hi, my name is Luis, and I play acoustic and electric guitar. I have been a music teacher for twenty-five years. My musical influences encompass a diverse range, including classical music, jazz, blues, progressive rock, traditional Latin American music, and more. I mainly teach acoustic and popular guitar with classical technique. I also teach electric guitar, Solfege, music Theory, and Music Composition. So, my teaching style can best be described as helping the student discover his or her aptitudes and abilities through gentle guidance. My students like me to tell them that patience and persistence as a way to achieve a goal. Practice and perseverance are key to playing an instrument. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying, “Don't give up, remember that failing is part of training. Failure is the natural path to success.” My favorite thing about teaching is that the students achieve their goals through enjoyable classes. My students love that I give them exercises, tasks, and pieces that they can play easily, to move forward. My approach to teaching music is dedication to the student and a passion for teaching. In addition, I tailor lessons to each specific student's case to meet the needs of each student at their learning level and age. Chris Ferrari is a New York City-based multi-instrumentalist. A passionate composer and improviser, he has performed as a leader and sideman throughout New York, Boston, Colorado and abroad over the past 15 years. Chris attended the Manhattan School of Music (MM ‘25) and the New England Conservatory of Music (BM ‘23). He has taught privately and within public schools over the past eight years, and loves to help students cultivate their passion for music and instrumental performance. Students can choose to focus entirely on their instrument (saxophone, clarinet, and flute), or can specifically study improvisation, jazz composition, music theory, and ear training. While primarily a jazz musician, Chris is trained in a wide variety of musics including classical, which he diligently studied on the clarinet; popular music and R&B; and world musics, including Brazilian (Choro/Bossa/Samba), Latin-American (Bomba/Timba/Rumba), and West-African styles (Agbekor/Gahu). Some of Chris's many accomplishments include being recognized as a YoungArts Jazz Performance winner for four years in a row; performing abroad in Europe with the inaugural NYO Jazz Band, receiving a Community Performances and Partnerships Ensemble Fellowship at New England Conservatory, and also receiving the George Whitefield Chadwick Medal of musical and academic performance. Singing is one of the most beloved and universal forms of self-expression. Whether you want to learn to sing for fun or you're preparing for auditions, I promise to put all my years of experience at your disposal and make this the best possible learning experience. We start with an assessment of where you're at and where you'd like to be as a singer, so we can set goals and work toward them. From there, the fun of learning technique and choosing repertoire begins! I will always have a structure in mind, but my hope is that as a team we can create the ideal voice lessons for you!

Figure drawing isn't easy; it requires precision and practice. You must learn the basics of figure drawing to grow your skills. That is why having a strong understanding and practice of your basics is incredibly difficult and important. The basics include the correct method of drawing lines and circles, tips on understanding the anatomically correct proportions of the human body, and the practice of drawing what you see. This is the most challenging aspect of figure drawing, and it requires practice to simply put what you see on paper. It might seem tedious and somewhat useless, but from my experience, it was the foundation I wish someone had taught me. These skills aren't only used for figure drawing, but also for your other drawing endeavors. The class session will entail a step-by-step program based on your performance and progress when accomplishing each skill. I will guide you through a hands-on process to master each lesson. This is meant to curate an environment where you feel accomplished and for you to make mistakes and learn from them.

This comprehensive course is designed to build and strengthen core literacy skills in reading comprehension, English language proficiency, and academic writing, with a special emphasis on essay development. Through a structured and scaffolded approach, students will explore a range of literary and non-literary texts while learning how to analyze, interpret, and respond to them both critically and creatively. This flexible course allows for teaching of all elements of English, core elements which include reading, writing, and possibly even speaking. For the course materials, I will provide the required texts, many of which can be found online and discussed more in person. As a university student double majoring in political science and legal studies, I have read and discussed more than a hundred texts, so I can guarantee satisfaction!

I teach how to make the music you really want to make on cello. I am a classically-trained cellist and composer who has played with and had my compositions played by major symphony orchestras across the US, and I am currently the cellist of an amazing World Music Jazz/Flamenco Fusion group. I can teach you how to play any classical repertoire to your best ability and with your own personality. And I can also help you compose your own music and improvise on cello as well, if that's of interest to you. I am very attuned to rhythm and its function in all music. I really love to teach and I like to figure out how each of my unique students learns best.

You’ll discover how to take great photographs, enhance them using Photoshop, and bring your ideas to life with fun illustrations in Adobe Illustrator. From designing logos, stickers, and notebooks to experimenting with color, layout, and composition, this class offers a playful and practical introduction to visual storytelling—perfect for beginners, young creatives, and curious minds of any age. No experience needed—just a passion to learn and create!

Music lessons are a space to learn and experience meaningful connections amongst individuals through discussing musical material as a means of expression and thoughtfulness. In the individual lessons we discuss possibilities of thinking about sounds and ways of bringing sounds to life in different ways. Violin lessons are in particular a great way of exploring the connectedness of the thought, feelings, and body through learning the instrument as well as reading music. In each lesson, we discuss ways of developing a better understanding of this connection using different methods; the methods used for each student can vary according to their needs. As a result, students will be able to play different music on the violin and improvise on the instrument. In music theory, ear training, and composition lessons we delve into the basics of music theory in Western Classical tradition, the history of it, and look at some examples as well as practical exercises for a better understanding of the material. Through the process of learning, we will explore different ways of implementing different theoretical aspects of the sound in creative practice.

Graphic design, painting, and drawing each offer unique ways to bring your creative ideas to life. In this course, you’ll explore a range of graphic design techniques—from working with typography and layout to image manipulation and visual storytelling—to refine your skills and enhance your artwork. You’ll also learn essential painting and drawing techniques, such as blending, layering, and texture-building, as well as composition and color theory to create captivating visuals. Whether you prefer bold digital collages, delicate watercolor washes, or intricate line work, this course will give you the tools to push your artwork further. You’ll discover how to combine traditional and digital methods seamlessly, refine your creative process, and develop a distinct artistic voice that stands out.

Every class is suited towards your skill level and needs. If you're interested in digital art, you can learn how to create digital arts using Krita, a free digital arts software that I highly recommend for it's tools and features similar to that of Photoshop's. If you already experimented on your own software, I will help you with rendering, anatomy, and composition. If you're interested in painting, I can provide materials if needed. I am experienced with both oil painting and acrylic painting. I can help you create both Fine Arts, or illustration. We've all been there: math is hard, but it doesn't have to be! My approach to mathematics puts the student first. It goes beyond just getting homework done: I aim to break down concepts to the fundamentals and establish understanding that will help you ace tests and quizzes. I offer tutoring for all levels of high school mathematics and beyond, including Geometry, Algebra I and II, PreCalculus, Calculus AB and BC, and Multivariable Calculus. I am also happy to offer tutoring for middle schoolers. My background: I am a mathematics major at Georgetown University! Before then, I found my passion for math at the local Peninsula High School, where I was a member of the math honor society. I have experience in competitive mathematics and a score of 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam. I also have years of experience working as a tutor.
