Since there is no single best method for everyone, I base my approach depending on the student and their goals. Generally, with younger children I use the direct method, only using English and with an audio-lingual approach, so that they get used to the language before seeing it in written form. This kind of teaching in often done through games.
With young adults, who usually have a good base of the language, I do more grammar and vocabulary exercises, as well as practicing conversation and writing skills.
If a student needs to take an English proficiency test (such as IELTS or TOEFL) or wishes to improve their writing skills, there will be a greater focus on grammar, vocabulary and sentence structure.
