Marine Science - Biology,

Thinking about marine biology as a career? Or do you have a general interest in marine biology and all the amazing life living in our oceans? Whether it's marine mammals, comparing polar and tropic seas, or understanding the oceanographic processes and the currents around the world, and how these might change with climate change, I am happy to help with a tailored marine biology course for you. Topics we can cover (but not limited to!):
- Oceans and currents
- Rocky coasts
- Polar seas
- Tropical seas
- Deep sea
- Benthic Ecology (the things that live inside and ontop of the seafloor!)
- Fisheries
- Climate change and the impacts on ocean ecosystems
- Statistics
- ... and many more! :)
I would recommend this level of tutoring to college and university level students (that's not to deter any of you ambitious secondary/high school students, or people with a general interest, you are more than welcome!). I have put beginner level as the class title, but I am happy to teach higher levels. We can tailor the class to you if there is a particular area of interest for you :)
About me: I am a PhD researcher who is specialising in Arctic marine ecology with a solid background in marine science and ecology. I am currently based in Finland, Europe, but I am a UK national and studied at both St Andrews University and Southampton University in the UK. I am flexible with timings so if the times listed below don't suit you please contact me and we can organise a time that works for us both.

Hello,
I am Phoebe, originally from London in the UK, however, I have lived in many places such as Fiji, Australia, Scotland, various places in England, and now in Finland! I am a PhD researcher who is specialising in Arctic marine ecology with a solid background in marine science and ecology.
Now, I am on this website in the hope to share some of the knowledge and skills I have accumulated over the years and passing them on to you in a calm manner, with no pressure, and fun, easy-going one-on-one sessions. As a scientist, you have to know many skills (not just the science!), and so I have represented a few of the necessary skills here on my page to help you in your early scientist careers.

Becoming a scientist? Statistics and coding skills are an important part of your everyday job. Learn early, practice, and with no time you will be flying through your data analyses before everybody else. Using coding software such as R allows you to interpret and analyse meaningful data and plot beautiful graphs using base R or multiple libraries.
I will teach you the basic syntax of R, how to understand and 'think' like R, and build on those skills to do more complicated statistics (ANOVA's, PCA, GLM's, mixed-effects models, etc.) and - the most important(!) - how to plot beautiful graphs!
